Temple has two paths to get bowl eligible for the fourth straight season … and neither one is easy. Here are the options: 1. Run the table in the remaining three games — beating Cincinnati, Army and Syracuse OR … 2. Win two of those three games, schedule that oft-reported (but still not official) game…

This probably isn’t a good sign. Ilya Bryzgalov, who jumped ship for the KHL, is acting worryingly Bryz-like. At the bottom of an early-morning lockout update, the Inqy’s Sam Carcidi has a note about Bryzgalov rebuffing the Russian media. For reference, he’s 2-4 with 2.92 GAA and a .892 save percentage. Via Carchidi: After his…
Up in Adirondack: Schenn and Couturier Are Pretty Much the Team; Plus, a Phantoms-to-Allentown Update

Well, they don’t score much. The Phantom’s 23 markers in nine games put them in the bottom 10 of the AHL in the goals for category. As you’ll see on the chart to the right, Braydon Schenn and Sean Couturier lead the team in points. Actually, their 21 combined matches the total of the next…

The Eagles’ rendering above doesn’t take much explaining, but I’m still trying to figure out if ESPN is calling RGIII a nudist. Anyway, these pictures come courtesy Kurt Snibbe, who took the time to put together renderings for all 32 teams. You can continue with the NFC here and jump over the AFC here. For…

A man cannot live on rappelling off buildings alone. Thus, Max Talbot is going to Finland. Ilves of SM-liiga has announced a deal with the Flyer on its website. According to ProHockeyTalk, who can translate the Finnish from the announcement on the team’s website: The deal appears to be contingent on the current work stoppage.…

For fans (beyond) ready to pull the plug on the Andy Reid era, rooting for failure — spectacular failure — seems like the play. After all, signs of life, like when the team won four straight to finish the 2011 season, could keep Andy around through another contract extension. So if you want him gone…

Amongst the Phillies’ clear offseason needs is an arm to own the eighth inning and set up a reliable bridge to closer Jonathan Papelbon.
None of the these options in 2012 — Chad Qualls, Antonio Bastardo, Michael Stutes, Michael Schwimmer, Joe Savery, Raul Valdes, Jake Diekman, Jeremy Horst, Justin De Fratus, Brian Sanches (if I forgot anyone, I’m sorry) — proved reliable.

While the Sixers seem to be keeping their plans to reintroduce a mascot on the back burner, the Brooklyn Nets went ahead and somehow created something that wasn’t a moose.

The Temple Owls quietly moved into their new practice facility at the corner of Broad and Montgomery — right across the street from the Apollo — last spring. On Thursday, coach Fran Dunphy opened things up to the media and took about 30 minutes to show off his new digs.

As the Million Dollar Man used to say: “Everybody’s got a price.”
And apparently the Giants parted with a historic piece of their franchise memorabilia for a relatively small sum.

Not larger arenas in Kansas City or Quebec. Not even the proposed building in Seattle.
The New York Islanders announced Wednesday afternoon that they will be moving to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn following the 2014-15 season, when their lease at the hopeless Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum finally expires.

Would you follow Temple to Hawaii? Of course not — you won’t follow the Owls to South Philly.
Kidding aside, would any of you Cherry & White diehards consider this if it actually happens?

Ever notice a scar near Doug Collins’ eye? Apparently, Darryl Dawkins is accidentally responsible. And, no, it didn’t come from falling glass.

“What happened?” It’s a question that had to be asked. And Temple coach Steve Addazio was the one asking it. These numbers help explain…

There’s the prospect that Nick Young could rein himself in under a one-year contract. But if he doesn’t, and you thought you had a problem with Lou Williams’ shot selection, then be prepared.
There’s not a lot of swag in being quietly efficient.

If a Jason Hanson field foal attempt was just a little more off line, there’s a good chance we wouldn’t have seen Todd Bowles in front of the media yesterday afternoon.
And if we’re to believe Bowles’ surprise, wouldn’t that seem to indicate that he didn’t think things were going so bad for the defense? Discuss.

He came back to the Eagles, had his number retired, was honored with a spectacular going-out party at halftime of the Giants game, but now it finally feels like the Brian Dawkins closing ceremonies have officially come to an end:
He’s been honored in a single by Reef the Lost Cauze.

Yes, the preseason was totally cancelled and we’ve already done away with the first two weeks of the regular season, but, hey, at least we have ice.

I used to joke L.J. Smith held the football like a loaf of bread. Turns out he would have made a great addition to the 1934 Temple Owls.

The Eagles’ defensive line hasn’t sacked a quarterback in two games, but if you listen to Trent Cole, that almost sounds like a good thing.
