  1. Boise State East Meets La Salle West in Tonight’s NCAA Play-In Game

    Mar 20, 2013, 12:10 PM EDT

They come from the two best mid-major conferences in the country. They received bids over schools from BCS conferences with (arguably) better resumes (Tennessee, Virginia). They have little-to-no recent NCAA tournament history. They both play four guards (sometimes even five) guards. There’s a lot of similarities between La Salle and Boise State ahead of their first-round/play-in game at 9:10 p.m. this evening in Dayton, Ohio.

  2. Jeff Lurie Wants to Host a Super Bowl in Philadelphia

    Mar 18, 2013, 5:34 PM EDT

  3. Donovan McNabb Will Host a Drive-Time Show on NBC Sports Radio

    Mar 15, 2013, 2:13 PM EDT

You can now add Donovan McNabb to your evening drive — meaning incidents of road rage are about to go on the rise across the Delaware Valley. So will you listen? [poll inside]

  4. Your Quick and Dirty Day 2, A-10 Tourney Primer

    Mar 15, 2013, 9:29 AM EDT

Do Temple and La Salle still need one more win each? How many spots are actually up for grabs from the A-10 in the field of 68? How could you have made a cool $16,000 Wednesday afternoon? This and more is our Day 2, A-10 tournament primer.

  5. Have 140K Lying Around? Buy the ‘Rocky II’ House!

    Mar 14, 2013, 2:29 PM EDT

Looking for a house in South Philly? How about Rocky’s? The 90-year-old house is up for sale for $139,900.

  6. Sergei Bobrovsky Is the New Nik Vucevic, And the Hits Just Keep on Coming

    Mar 12, 2013, 1:37 PM EDT

Young guys. Talented or potentially talented. Ruled extraneous with the addition of two high-profile, veteran acquisitions at their positions. Acquisitions that have not gone to plan. The young guys, by the way, are flourishing. By now, we’re all familiar with the tale of Nik Vucevic, whom the Sixers selected 16th overall out of USC in…

  7. Amidst Calling Dwight Howard a Wimp, Kobe Bryant Found Time to Bring Up the 2001 Finals

    Mar 11, 2013, 1:18 PM EDT

He wants out of Orlando, he doesn’t want out of Orlando. He wants Stan Van Gundy fired, he doesn’t want Stan Van Gundy fired. He wants to dictate the terms of his free agency, he isn’t a free agent. He finally gets his wish to go to one of his two preferred markets, he realizes…

  8. In an Effort to Save the Season, the Flyers Have Recalled Michael Leighton

    Mar 9, 2013, 9:23 PM EDT

“Like Daniel Day-Lewis in Last of the Mohicans, HE WILL FIND US.” — Jon Stewart Following their 3-0 loss to Boston on Saturday, the Flyers recalled Michael Leighton and reassigned Brian Boucher to the far reaches of northern New York. Lord Voldemort started the season as the Flyers’ backup goaltender but was placed on injured…

  9. Confusing Quantity with Quality: Ilya Bryzgalov’s First Half

    Mar 6, 2013, 12:27 PM EDT

On last night’s NBC pregame show, Mike Milbury referred to Ilya Bryzgalov as the Flyers’ “rock.” He did so after being asked a leading question about how well the goaltender had played through 23 games. Bryzgalov’s most recent outing to date had been a 2-1 win over the Senators during which he made 34 saves.…

  10. Jeff Carter Is Going to Need Those Free Hats Back

    Mar 5, 2013, 3:30 PM EDT

The conspiracy theory coming out of Los Angeles — the one I just made up while sitting here in Philly — is that the Kings rented 20,000 hats as a fake show of good will and then needed a way to get them back. That is to say: Jeff Carter scored a natural hat trick…

  11. Who Wants to Road Trip to Europe to Watch the Sixers?

    Mar 5, 2013, 1:23 PM EDT

In keeping with the NBA’s designs on growing the game internationally and potentially locating a league franchise overseas, your Philadelphia 76ers will be one of eight teams traveling abroad next October and will play two preseason games in Europe. The Sixers take on Uxue Bilbao Basket in Bilbao, Spain on Oct. 6 before heading to…

  12. While the NHL Considers Realignment, Let’s Just Fix the Standings

    Mar 4, 2013, 2:33 PM EDT

The Flyers aren’t .500. They’re 11-11-1. Eleven wins and 12 losses do not equal a winning percentage of .500. This is likely why you’ll never find winning percentage calculated in the NHL standings, because unlike in the NFL, MLB and NBA, it doesn’t matter. It’s also probably why the NHL’s game recap didn’t mention that…

  13. Andrew Bynum on Whether He’ll Play This Year: ‘I Don’t Know’ and ‘It’s My Life’

    Mar 1, 2013, 1:41 PM EDT

The tweets out of Friday’s Sixers practice are beginning to point to what many fans have thought for a long time. That Andrew Bynum will not play for the Philadelphia 76ers — at least not this year. Although there’s still 26 games to play and Bynum’s statement to reporters was not definitive, it’s the first…

  14. In Which Evan Turner Sums up the Sixers’ 2012-13 Season

    Mar 1, 2013, 2:20 AM EDT

Certain professional athletes are often accused of not “getting it.” But not Evan Turner. He doesn’t just get it. He’s frigging profound about it. So while head coach Doug Collins was somehow “shocked” at the amount of attention his Tuesday night press conference received, E.T. had taken two days to hear it, digest it and…

  15. Happy 40th Birthday, Eric Lindros

    Feb 28, 2013, 2:15 PM EDT

Ah, to be born on of Feb. 28 or March 1 and not have to fake your birthday like those weird Feb. 29 kids. This guy knows what we’re talking about. Anyway, Happy 40th Birthday, Eric Lindros. The Big E is over the hill. In honor of the occasion, SI’s Extra Mustard crew has put…

  16. Is This the Reason Arnett Moultrie Isn’t Playing?

    Feb 28, 2013, 12:55 PM EDT

Coming out of the All-Star Break, the chief complaint hurled at Sixers coach Doug Collins — among the many — has been his refusal to play 2012 draft pick Arnett Moultrie. AU addressed the topic at length last week, after Moultrie sat with the first of two DNP-CDs in three games — and before Collins’…

  17. 5 Big Reasons to Watch or Attend Tonight’s Big 5 Title Game

    Feb 21, 2013, 3:03 PM EDT

Introduction seems unnecessary considering this is an introduction, so here’s what tonight’s Temple-La Salle game (7 p.m. / CBS Sports) has working in its favor: 1. The Big 5 TitleLa Salle (18-6, 8-3, 3-0) is guaranteed at least a share of the championship, which it has not held since 1998 and hasn’t won outright since…

  18. Read These Excerpts from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to Continue the Good Flyers-Penguins Feelings

    Feb 21, 2013, 1:39 PM EDT

We’ve played the Penguinfreude game before, and we’ll play it again. Honestly, it’s a good game. Today’s quote roundup comes from this lede and this close in two separate articles from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Many believe a two-goal lead is the most dangerous in hockey. Others contend a three-goal edge has that distinction. Truth is,…

  19. NBA Trade Deadline Watch: Counting Down to 3 p.m. with the Still-Middling Sixers

    Feb 21, 2013, 12:04 PM EDT

The NBA trade deadline is set for 3 p.m. this afternoon. This, typically, is one of my favorite days of the year, because there’s nothing I love more than professional basketball teams trading troubled baggage. Remember 2009 — when Raef LaFrentz’s $13 million expiring contract was the most valuable asset on the market? That’s the…

  20. Presidents’ Day, Ey Ey Ey! Flyers Locate the Net on Long Island

    Feb 18, 2013, 3:45 PM EDT

It wasn’t quite his opening shift in Game 6 of last season’s quarterfinals, but Claude Giroux knows how to make an entrance. Two days after ripping his teammates for “going through the motions,” Giroux threw his body around, corralled a slap-pass from Matt Read and beat goaltender Evgeni Nabokov just 26 seconds into the Flyers’…

  21. Curious What the Sixers Would Look Like with Sleeves? We Gave It a Shot

    Feb 13, 2013, 11:40 AM EDT

In keeping with the Golden State Warriors’ intentions of wearing sleeves this season, Adidas has also promised that more NBA teams will be donning the look. So, we started thinking over what a Sixers alternate-sleeve jersey might look like and gave our best shot at a couple mockups. [photos inside]

  22. Raise Your Hand If You’re Tired of Hearing Mike Vick Talk About This Same Thing Over and Over Again

    Feb 12, 2013, 2:17 PM EDT

None of Mike Vick’s problems are new, and if he hasn’t figured out how to address them by now, he isn’t going to. That’s why, when he talks about his injury history and playing style, it’s really just noise.

  23. Not For Nothing, But Danny Briere and Ilya Bryzgalov Really Dig the Maple Leafs

    Feb 11, 2013, 3:36 PM EDT

Not trying to jinx anything, but the Flyers have a few solid trends on their side this evening in Toronto. Plus, Luke Schenn’s first trip back to Air Canada Centre and James van Riemsdyk’s first game against his old mates.

  24. Norman Braman Isn’t Who You Want to Hear it From, But You, the Sports Fan, Are Still Getting Screwed

    Feb 11, 2013, 1:39 PM EDT

If owners of professional franchises are not willing to accept the risk of building a stadium that will sufficiently meet their desire for an increase in revenue, especially in an era when franchise values are skyrocketing, then what risk are they accepting?

  25. Quotable: Lavoy Allen Would Like to Remind You That Rebounding Is Pretty Much His Thing

    Feb 10, 2013, 12:29 PM EDT

It’s like that time we interviewed him during his first Sixers training camp last year, asked him a bunch of questions about his toughness, desire and motor, and he told us that he likes to listen to “Moves Like Jagger” before games. It’s entirely possible that he does get hype to Maroon 5, but it’s also possible he was just messing with us.
