The Flyers aren’t .500. They’re 11-11-1. Eleven wins and 12 losses do not equal a winning percentage of .500. This is likely why you’ll never find winning percentage calculated in the NHL standings, because unlike in the NFL, MLB and NBA, it doesn’t matter. It’s also probably why the NHL’s game recap didn’t mention that…

The tweets out of Friday’s Sixers practice are beginning to point to what many fans have thought for a long time. That Andrew Bynum will not play for the Philadelphia 76ers — at least not this year. Although there’s still 26 games to play and Bynum’s statement to reporters was not definitive, it’s the first…

Certain professional athletes are often accused of not “getting it.” But not Evan Turner. He doesn’t just get it. He’s frigging profound about it. So while head coach Doug Collins was somehow “shocked” at the amount of attention his Tuesday night press conference received, E.T. had taken two days to hear it, digest it and…

Ah, to be born on of Feb. 28 or March 1 and not have to fake your birthday like those weird Feb. 29 kids. This guy knows what we’re talking about. Anyway, Happy 40th Birthday, Eric Lindros. The Big E is over the hill. In honor of the occasion, SI’s Extra Mustard crew has put…

Coming out of the All-Star Break, the chief complaint hurled at Sixers coach Doug Collins — among the many — has been his refusal to play 2012 draft pick Arnett Moultrie. AU addressed the topic at length last week, after Moultrie sat with the first of two DNP-CDs in three games — and before Collins’…

Introduction seems unnecessary considering this is an introduction, so here’s what tonight’s Temple-La Salle game (7 p.m. / CBS Sports) has working in its favor: 1. The Big 5 TitleLa Salle (18-6, 8-3, 3-0) is guaranteed at least a share of the championship, which it has not held since 1998 and hasn’t won outright since…

We’ve played the Penguinfreude game before, and we’ll play it again. Honestly, it’s a good game. Today’s quote roundup comes from this lede and this close in two separate articles from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Many believe a two-goal lead is the most dangerous in hockey. Others contend a three-goal edge has that distinction. Truth is,…

The NBA trade deadline is set for 3 p.m. this afternoon. This, typically, is one of my favorite days of the year, because there’s nothing I love more than professional basketball teams trading troubled baggage. Remember 2009 — when Raef LaFrentz’s $13 million expiring contract was the most valuable asset on the market? That’s the…

It wasn’t quite his opening shift in Game 6 of last season’s quarterfinals, but Claude Giroux knows how to make an entrance. Two days after ripping his teammates for “going through the motions,” Giroux threw his body around, corralled a slap-pass from Matt Read and beat goaltender Evgeni Nabokov just 26 seconds into the Flyers’…

In keeping with the Golden State Warriors’ intentions of wearing sleeves this season, Adidas has also promised that more NBA teams will be donning the look. So, we started thinking over what a Sixers alternate-sleeve jersey might look like and gave our best shot at a couple mockups. [photos inside]

None of Mike Vick’s problems are new, and if he hasn’t figured out how to address them by now, he isn’t going to. That’s why, when he talks about his injury history and playing style, it’s really just noise.

Not trying to jinx anything, but the Flyers have a few solid trends on their side this evening in Toronto. Plus, Luke Schenn’s first trip back to Air Canada Centre and James van Riemsdyk’s first game against his old mates.
Norman Braman Isn’t Who You Want to Hear it From, But You, the Sports Fan, Are Still Getting Screwed

If owners of professional franchises are not willing to accept the risk of building a stadium that will sufficiently meet their desire for an increase in revenue, especially in an era when franchise values are skyrocketing, then what risk are they accepting?

It’s like that time we interviewed him during his first Sixers training camp last year, asked him a bunch of questions about his toughness, desire and motor, and he told us that he likes to listen to “Moves Like Jagger” before games. It’s entirely possible that he does get hype to Maroon 5, but it’s also possible he was just messing with us.

Some of them you liked. Some of them you disliked. Some of them you “got.” Some of them you didn’t “get.” But all of them cost $4 million per 30 seconds of air time … plus their respective budgets.

Bernie Parent wants you to “stay horny.” You read that correctly. In an article on Philly.com entitled, “Unleash your hidden wolf on Valentine’s Day,” Flyers Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent is dispensing advice on the matters of love.

Every now and then you see some guys trying to surf the Jersey Shore pretending that they’re riding a 100-foot, record-breaking wave. Well, a guy named Garrett McNamara actually is.
Separately, is this McNamara, a Boston native, any relation to the kid from the Little League game in Good Will Hunting? Point Break and Along Came Polly also inside. Kill some time.
Forbes Study Finds Fran Dunphy the Second-Best College Basketball Coach in the Country ‘for the Money’

Back-to-back wins over Louisville and Syracuse make Villanova the first program since Ball State in 2001 to defeat two Top 5 teams in the same week as an unranked opponent.

Is new Temple football coach Matt Rhule the kind of guy who’s going to invoke his mortality in his first public address since his introductory press conference? You’re goddamn right he is.

Sincere congratulations are in order for the Villanova Wildcats and La Salle Explorers, who, on back-to-back nights, took down the No. 5 and No. 9 teams in the nation in Louisville and Butler. Both wins included a court-storming, but neither included a buzzer-beating 50-footer. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we’re here.
Behold what’s very possibly the shot of the college basketball season [video inside].

In the latest edition of Charles being Charles, we now know that 11-time NBA All-Star and one-time NBA MVP Charles Barkley does not know how to tie a tie. So obviously TNT cameras caught Sixers’ beat writer Dei Lynam tying it for him prior to the Sixers’ nationally televised game with the Spurs on Monday night. Underrated portion of the clip sees Neil Hartman just watching in amusement as Charles tries and fails. [video inside]

The 2012 quarterfinals were about as good as it gets for Flyers fans (minus a Stanley Cup). As for the Penguins, well, they’re still trying to figure out what the hell happened.

Based only on what we can see, well done. Certainly an improvement from last year, where the semi-muted, dark-light-color pattern from top-to-bottom was just drab and runny. The colors on the 2013 jerseys are brighter and the design sharper. UniWatch published some full-length video game stills back in October that show how the shorts might…
