With player families taking the ice for a skate after practice, Claude Giroux’s sister made her boyfriend a lucky man. After consultation with the NHL’s top scorer, Isabelle Giroux’s boyfriend proposed to her on the ice earlier today. Watch the video below for what may be the best Citizens Bank Park proposal of all time, as well as the best advice of a soon-to-be brother-in-law on how to man up…

Jaromir Jagr’s been on fire in his return to Pittsburgh, where his former home fans are booing him incessantly. He scored a brilliant goal and gave his trademark salute right at this gentleman in one of those light blue Sidney Crosby jerseys, who happened to be giving him the finger.

We’re not quite halfway through the NHL season, but Jaromir Jagr’s tour of NHL bridges he’s somehow burned is nearly complete. He’s been to DC and Manhattan already, and tonight, he’ll skate in front of the fans for whom he was at several times a Cup winner and MVP.

We’ve already talked about Claude Giroux and Peter Laviolette clowning Steve Ott, as well as Lavvy’s ability to channel Sir Alex Ferguson and the Temple of Doom. Time to look at the rest of the third installment of HBO’s 24/7 from Wednesday night.

Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov wasn’t quite at a loss for words, but he couldn’t explain his problems after a 5-1 loss despite dramatically outshooting the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In tonight’s Flyers-Lightning preview, we mentioned these two teams don’t like each other much, and wondered what make its way into the next episode of HBO’s 24/7. There’s been plenty of scrapping and jawing going on so far, and one full throw-down between Wayne Simmonds and Tampa defenseman Eric Brewer. It didn’t go so well for Brewer, who needed help getting off the ice, stumbling and bleeding after some big connections. [Video]

Just about every night he’s on the ice, Claude Giroux does something worth tuning in for. He added another highlight against the Lightning on Tuesday night, when he found… himself… with a great pass, then put a shot on net that Scott Hartnell finished up to tie the game at 1-1. Check out the video here.

It’s Friday night, the eve of Christmas Eve, and the NHL scheduling gods have given us the exact matchup we’ll see on January 2 at Citizens Bank Park. The Flyers are in New York to face the Rangers, surely a big storyline for the next installment of HBO’s 24/7.

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette wasn’t thrilled with the calls in Montreal and let the refs, players, and HBO cameras know his thoughts on ‘Typical Montreal’

As expected, Ilya Bryzgalov of the Flyers was the star of the second episode of HBO’s 24/7. The ep got a little meta, with the players all keenly aware, as was the rest of the hockey-watching world, of Bryzgalov’s brilliance in the first episode. Watch here as Bryz gets ribbed by Jaromir Jagr and company, then waxes poetic on the ladylike beauty of the Siberian Husky…

Ed Wade’s complicated legacy in Philly has been rewritten favorably since he left. Will he be remembered for his positives or negatives? Either way, he’s back with the club he helped build into a winner.

A few Flyers defensemen came up with some big plays in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche, but this one by Braydon Coburn was pretty stellar.

There’s probably not a whole lot of small details or minor lessons the Flyers or any of us fans want to remember about Saturday’s absolute ass-kicking at the hands of the Boston Bruins. One thing’s for sure though, while they need to move on and play as if that game didn’t happen, it was a good wake-up call that they’re not quite where they need to be. Right now, they’re good enough to have a fun regular season ride with all the usual ups and downs. But are they good enough to make a deep playoff run, or go all the way to a Cup?
While it was only one game, that 6-0 loss to last year’s champs was indeed a measuring stick, and the Flyers came up very short. Of course, they were without some key players, including their top forward and top defenseman, and it appears we’ll get the former back soon. But the latter may never be, and Saturday should show the Flyers the level they need to aspire for between now and, way down the road, the playoffs.
The road continues in Denver tonight, where the Flyers begin a five-game road trip with a 9PM start against the Avalanche. A former Cup-winning goalie tandem highlights the storylines.

It may not mean he’s close to returning just yet, but Claude Giroux is at least skating with the Flyers in Colorado this afternoon. The team posted this pic of him donning the yellow non-contact gear, which is quite a relieving sight even if we don’t yet know what it means for his return to game play.

the Flyers may be without their top offensive and defensive players, respectively, but they still have every bit a team that should be expected to be in every game they play.

References to the Los Angeles Kings as “Flyers West” grew new legs this past summer, when former Flyers captain Mike Richards was traded to Hollywood, followed soon after by the signing of Simon Gagne. Richie and Gags joined a cast of former Orange & Blackers that included such notable former inhabitants of South Philadelphia as coach Terry Murray, assistant coach John Stevens, GM Dean Lombardi, and assistant GM Ron Hextall.
Today, with the Kings sitting at 13-12-4 and having lost four straight, one of the former Flyers lost his gig. However, they’re still pretty Flyer-heavy for the moment; Murray was fired, and Stevens has taken over as interim head coach
