2011 NLDS Game 4: Lil Roy for the Kill

Share

The Phillies and their ridiculous wealth of starting pitchers will roll out Roy Oswalt as their Game 4 starter tonight in St. Louis.

How are these playoff numbers for a Game 4 starter? 5-0, 3.25 ERA in 10 postseason starts. Lil Roy is just the second pitcher in MLB history to go undefeated in his first 10 career postseason starts (Orel Hershiser).

Oswalt obviously missed plenty of time this season with a back issue that didn't allow him to live up to his typical numbers, but he's gotten healthy just in time for the playoffs and says he's feeling great. In his final regular season tune up against a must-win Braves team, Oswalt was fantastic, allowing only 3 hits over 6 innings en route to the victory.

Our confidence in Lil Roy tonight is high.

As for the Cardinals lineup, Matt Holiday returns and starts this evening after battling a sore hand for much of the series.

Perhaps the best news for the Phils today? Ryan Theriot who had four hits and is .313 (10 for 32) lifetime against Roy Oswalt is not in the starting lineup tonight. (h/t Matt Gelb)

Oswalt helped end the Braves season a week ago. Here's to hoping he burry's the Cardinals tonight.

Oh, and if you're looking for any added excitement -- as if we need any after last night -- Charlie Manuel said you could see Cliff Lee out of the bullpen tonight. (Ryan Madson also said he could pitch an inning tonight as well)

6:07 ET start time. Let's win and relax for a few days.
