An Unexpected Roy Halladay Win in Late August Is a Good Thing

Roy Halladay wasn't supposed to be the Phillies starting pitcher on Sunday afternoon when the weekend began, but a pesky 18-inning affair on Saturday night forced the Phils to change Doc's scheduled Sunday start from Reading to South Philadelphia.

Halladay was asleep late Saturday night when the team informed him of the change in plans. You can watch him tell the story in the video above. He wishes he could have had more sleep, obviously.

Not only did Halladay make the unexpected start for the Phillies but he managed his return well and helped the team earn a victory. Yes, his velocity was down, but he believes that is the facet of his game that will take the most time to get back.

It was pretty remarkable showing given that Halladay underwent shoulder surgery roughly 3.5 months ago and many believed at that time that his career as a Phillie was over.

Instead, he pitched on Sunday and he looked pretty good, finishing the day after six innings, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.

And the Phillies win.

Following the game, Halladay said he still believes he can win a World Series in Philly:
