Cliff Lee In Cy Young Contention

Cliff Lee's ability to string together amazing game after amazing game has made him an absolute joy to watch pitch for the Phillies this season. After last night's complete game shutout (his sixth of the season, a feat not accomplished since Randy Johnson in 1998), Cliff is firmly in the Cy Young conversation.

ESPN has something they call a Cy Young Predictor, and after last night's game, Cliff is in the lead in the National League. It's based on all of your typical pitching stats with a "victory bonus" factored in.

See the full formula here at the bottom.

Charlie Manuel was asked about both Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay being in Cy Young contention following last night's game.

"That's not for me to answer questions like that," the Phillies manager
said when asked who deserved the Cy Young Award among his pitchers.
"Every one of them."
I'd give the slight edge to Cliff as of today, but there's still a month of baseball left.

Obviously an individual award is not the most important thing for the team this season, but if you had to pick a Cy Young, who would you go with?
