Cliff Lee Searches for First Win As Phils Look for Series Victory

Share

The Phillies wonderful winning ways came to an end on Saturday night as Joe Blanton was tuned up by the BoSox. The Fightins will look to get back on the winning track this afternoon behind Cliff Lee (0-1, 1.95) who is still looking for his first 'W' of the season. It's the first time in Clifton's career that he's been winless through his first five starts of the season. According to Elias, Lee's ERA is the lowest for any Phillies pitcher who was winless through his first five starts of a season since the NL began keeping track of earned runs in 1912 (That's a long ass time).

Lee will go up against Botson's right-hander Josh Beckett (3-4, 4.97). From CSN's notes: "Beckett has struggled so far but is coming off his best outing of the season. He went seven innings, allowing four hits and zero runs, while striking out nine, against the Mariners last week. The Red Sox won that game, 5-0. Beckett is 8-5 lifetime against the Phils with a 4.18 ERA."

John Maryberry Jr. and Shane Victorino are both back in the lineup after each notching 3 hits on Saturday. Chooch gets the day off behind the dish.

1:35 start from CBP. Wear some sunscreen.
