Cole Hamels essentially started his spring training today but feels ‘really good'

The good news about Cole Hamels' bullpen session today is that he said he felt "really good" after he was finished this morning as opposed to the last time out when he said 30 or so pitches felt like a thousand.

So Hamels is back to work but he still remains noncommittal about pitching for the Phils in April. To get a better sense of when he could return to the rotation, the AP says "Hamels said Wednesday morning's side session, the first time he had thrown off the mound since March 1, was the equivalent of 'the day before spring training.'"

So he's essentially starting his spring training on March 12th.

At least he says he feels really good, from Jim Salisbury's report:

The shoulder “feels really good,” Hamels added. “The past couple days it’s felt really great. I’ve done exercises to kind of get the mobilization, get the range of motion back. We’ve tested the strength from all the angles just to make sure that I’m safe and everything is going to be working properly. That was helpful, along with the program we’ve been able to do for 12 days. I think that’s been beneficial.”

In other Phillies pitching injury news, Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez was scratched from his appearance this afternoon due to soreness in his arm. That certainly doesn't bode well for the Phils or MAG's chances of earning one of the spots in the rotation.
