Cole Hamels Tries to Keep His Streak Alive in Milwaukee

Aug 18, 2012, 6:07 PM EDT

Cole Hamels hasn't allowed a run in 22 consecutive innings coming into tonight's contest against the Milwaukee Brewers. That includes two straight complete game shutouts. Three's a charm, though.

A bit more on Cole from the game notes:

Hamels’ 22.0-inning streak is the longest active streak in the majors among starting pitchers and 3rd-longest active overall (TB’s J.P. Howell – 23.2 & CIN’s Aroldis Chapman – 22.2) … It is tied with Kyle Kendrick’s (6/28-8/3) streak (also 22.0 IP) for the longest of the season by a Phillies pitcher … Hamels’ career best scoreless streak of 25.0 innings was August 24-September 8, 2010.

Kyle Kendrick!

Let’s hope he can best that career mark this evening.

One other quick positive note: the Phillies expect Carlos Ruiz to play again this season. A Choochless September with this team would have been quite sad.
