Deadspin just published a story that says Bill Conlin just resigned from the Daily News prior to a story in the Inquirer breaking which talks about allegations involving Conlin and child molestation. A.J. Daulerio writes:

The Philadelphia Inquirer's top investigative reporter, Nancy
Phillips, has written a story containing what we're told are allegations
of child molestation against sportswriter Bill Conlin, a longtime
columnist at the rival Daily News. Conlin resigned just moments ago, according to a source at the Daily News.

We wrote positive words about Conlin's work over the summer when he received his Hall of Fame nod.

UPDATE: According to NBC10, Conlin did not "resign," but rather he "retired."

UPDATE2: CBS Radio KYW in Philadelphia reports the Inquirer story alleges abuse of young girls 40 years ago. In 1971, Conlin would have been 37 and writing about the Phillies for the Daily News. [Poynter]

UPDATE3: The Inquirer story is now posted on the Internet and it's damning to Conlin. Disturbing stuff.
