Doc vs Wang (and Rain?) in CBP South Series Finale

In addition to Roy Oswalt's continued return to form, the storyline coming out of last night's 5-0 Phillies win was the overwhelming presence of Phillies fans in Nationals Park. We've seen it before, but, combined with Ian Desmond bobblehead night, the stadium saw its largest ever crowd. Fightins fans who made a weekend of it get to wake up this morning knowing their Sunday starter is Roy Halladay.

Doc is coming off a tough loss after he dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks for eight innings, only to surrender the tying and game-winning runs in the ninth. His shot at redemption and the Phils effort toward their seventh straight series win come against Chien-Ming Wang, the Taiwanese starter who was credited with back-to-back 19-win seasons with the Yankees before a freak baserunning injury knocked him from the rotation. Seemingly endless rehabs and attempts to regain form later, his long journey back continues today against the Phillies.

Wang signed with the Nats in 2010, but didn't make it back to full health. He re-signed in 2011 and has worked his way through rehab and conditioning in the minors before joining the team on July 29th. In four starts this season, Wang has earned four decisions (2-2), with the last two being wins.

Rotoworld terms his 2011 run to date "deceptively terrible."

Wang has struck out only three batters in 21.1 innings, with two of them coming in his debut; he's allowed more hits (23) than innings pitched, in addition to four free passes (not terrible, but it could mean we'll see plenty of balls left over the plate with not much on them). Wang was touched up for seven hits and four earned runs by the Reds last week, but his bats bailed him out by scoring six runs.

On paper, there's plenty to love about this matchup. Stranger things have happened on the dirt and grass though.

Weather
There's rain due in DC today, potentially very heavy, but it doesn't look like it will delay the start of the game despite audible thunder while Doc is warming up (per Matt Gelb). We could see a heavy storm before or during the 3PM hour though, according to Weather.com.

Phils Lineup
Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Pence, Ibanez, Ruiz, Martinez, Halladay.
