Eric Kratz: Dio Fan

Sep 20, 2011, 1:52 PM EDT

In his first at bat as a Phillie, catcher Eric Kratz tugs at our heartstrings by reminding us of a young Pat Burrell.

As tweeted by Phils beat writer Ryan Lawrence moments ago, catcher Eric Kratz strolled to the plate in his first at-bat as a Philadelphia Phillie to the sweet sounds of Dio’s “Holy Diver.”

You may remember “Holy Diver” as the walk-up track of a young Pat Burrell, before “The Bat” ultimately moved on to Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry.”

We were previously under the mistaken impression that the selection had been of Kratz’s own choosing, but now we’re finding out via @meghanXrino that “the control guys use that song for anyone who doesn’t supply their music.”

Facts be damned. Either way, I’m taking this as a nod to Burrell and/or Dio himself. Though I probably shouldn’t have ordered that Eric Kratz custom-T.

Ladies and gentleman, Dio…
