Finally! Cliff Lee Gets First Win of Year at Citizens Bank Park

Cliff Lee jump started the Phillies offense on Sunday afternoon by ripping a double over Bryce Harper's head in center field in the bottom of the fifth to score Kevin Frandsen and put the Fightins up 1-0. He later got some support from teammates Jimmy Rollins and Laynce Nix who both bashed homers to right field. And he certainly got a whole bunch of help from the right field fence, which kept an Adam Laroche baseball in the yard by a hair.

Oh, and Cliff was pretty damn sharp on the mound too.

He went seven strong innings scattering 7 hits and allowing only 1 run while striking out 5. He was filthy early, working the corners. 77 of his 99 pitches were for strikes. He got into a few jams late, but found a way to work out of them. Finally some luck went his way.

Jonathan Papelbon got the day off after putting in plenty of work over the past week. Instead, the Phillies leaned on Jeremy Horst and Josh Linblom for two scoreless frames.

The Phillies swept the first place Nationals out of town with Sunday's 4-1 win.

It was Cliff Lee's first win at Citizens Bank Park since September of 2011. Glad that's over with.
