Kevin Kernan Reminder! Ain't a Thing Over Yet

Share

The Phils lost last night, and while that's not the end of the world (Hurricane Irene is!), today's a good time to look back on August 26, 2007, when a fella by the name of Kevin Kernan declared the NL East race over. (Yes, I meant to post it yesterday as an anniversary of sorts, but didn't get to it.)  The New York Post writer took one look at a mere 6.5-game New York Mets lead over the Phillies and was all PSSSSH, they got this.

Well we know how that turned out.

We also know that the Phils' current lead in the east is just 6 games this morning, though they also hold a substantial lead in the wild card, so the playoffs are virtually certain. But let's not even mention the bubbly until the division is actually clinched, because the only thing worse than giant trees crashing through my roof overnight would be the best team in baseball coughing their lead up.

Now, I don't see that happening. Just bringing up our old friend Mr. Kernan for a little perspective, which may not even be needed by most of the fanbase here.

Stay tuned for hurricane programming... Hope everyone is safe and finding a way to enjoy some good old fashioned hunkerin' this weekend.
