Lack of Onions Has Phillies Fans Crying

Share

Phillies fans welcomed the opportunity to come back to Citizens Bank Park to watch the Phillies take on the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets in the first two home series of the season over the past week. But one thing many fans didn't welcome were a number of changes around our favorite ball park at the concessions stands.

Many beer prices have gone up a couple of quarters per beer, with the cheapest beer in the ballpark a hefty $7.75, and a number of "third tier" beers being offered at $8.75 a pop. Adding the extra selection is an attempt to increase the park's "credibility as a beer flavor haven." We agree that more choices are always tastier, but heftier prices are always tougher to swallow. According to Fan Cost Experience, CBP is one of the priciest venues in all of baseball to grab a frosty beer.

Another major change many fans may have noticed is the lack of onions at Citizens Bank Park. With dollar dog nights becoming a staple over the past few seasons, adding some freshly chopped onions to your dog makes for a delicious ball park snack.

We reached out to Aramark to ask where their onions have gone. Turns out they haven't disappeared completely, they're just tougher to find.

"We went into this year with the objective of
adding variety by offering brown mustard, relish, hot sauce, honey
mustard, BBQ sauce and salsa to the standard ketchup and yellow mustard
set up," JC Campbell, Division Manager at Aramark started out.

"Although not all the new varieties are available in every
location, they are strategically placed and paired up with the ever
growing menu. We have also doubled our napkin dispensers on the carts to
better serve the needs of the guests. Over the years, we have seen a
decline in onion usage at the carts so the natural progression was to
move away from the onion stations to make room for the new flavors.
Knowing that the onion still had a place here, we have added them to
stand 106 at the point of sale. We will replicate at South Philly Market
stands on all 3 levels. We plan on having the onions in all South Philly Market locations
at the start of the next home stand."

At least there are more napkins now to catch all of that extra relish and hot sauce.

So, no need to cry over the lack of onions on your Hatfield Frank. You're just going to have to travel a bit further to find them.
