The Phillies went out and added Chad Durbin to help fortify their bullpen today by giving him a relatively affordable one-year deal with a club option in 2014. You likely remember Durbin from such winning seasons as the 2008 World F&*%ing Champions, the 2009 World Series Losers, and the 2010 NL Losers to the Giants.
Durbin pitched for the rival Atlanta Braves last season and put up solid numbers. He'll be 35 this season and look to be a "good guy" in the pen this year as Todd Zolecki writes.
He went 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA in 76 appearances last season with the
Atlanta Braves. He had a 2.33 ERA from April 18 through the end of the
regular season, and carried a 0.83 ERA in 28 appearances against the
National League East.

In other Phillies news, they announced they'd bring infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to big league camp on a minor league deal.
Betancourt,
30, hit .228 with 14 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 36 RBI in
57 games with the Kansas City Royals last season. Defensively, he
appeared in 46 games at second base, eight at third base and one at
shortstop. Following the regular season, Betancourt played for Aguilas
de Mexicali in the Mexican Winter League, where he batted .308 with
eight doubles, seven home runs and 22 RBI in 26 games.
Good to see another infielder who hit in the .220s last year brought in to fight for a roster spot.
