Phils Game Chat: Worley for the Split

Share

The Phillies have never lost a series to the Cubs at Citizens Bank Park and you have to go all the way back to 2001 at the Vet to find the last time the Cubbies took a series in Philadelphia. They'll look to Vance Worley (2-1, 2.16) tonight to try and salvage a split. The Cubs will counter with right-hander Chris Volstad (0-3, 6.14).

Worley pitched well in his last outing when he faced the D-Backs in Arizona, lasting 6.0 innings and helping the Phils to an 8-5 win. Volstad has earned an 'L' in each of his last three starts, giving up at least 4 runs in each of them. Perhaps the Phillies offense could be the cure for his woes. That said, he got bashed around to the tune of 15 earned runs in just 9.2 innings in two starts against the Phillies last season.

7:05 start from CBP. Jimmy is in the one-hole yet again. Reuben Frank has some choice Charlie quotes from the pre game:

J-Roll went 16-for-74 (.216) with just three RBIs in the three-hole. He’s 2-for-7 with two RBIs already batting leadoff. Overall, Rollins is hitting .222 with no home-runs and just five RBIs.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve abandoned it, but I thought I’d give him a different look,” Manuel said. “I thought it was time for him to put him back in the one-hole. I don’t know if he’s had a different approach [hitting third]. I know sometimes -- and I’m not saying it happened to Jimmy -- but put a guy in the third hole, he can try too hard to knock runs in. ... I’m trying to find the best way to find some balance in the lineup so we can score some runs.”
