Quotable: Cliff Lee Just Wants to Win

Share

Cliff Lee was fantastic again on Thursday night as the Phillies finally snapped their losing skid in a 3-2 win over the Twins. Following the game, Lee was asked a number of questions about the state of the Phillies and whether he wants to stay here if things don't turn around and into a real playoff hunt.

The most interesting response came when Lee was asked about staying here even if the Phils aren't in contention. From Todd Zolecki's blog:

Does he want to stay if the team doesn’t turn things around?

“I definitely want to win,” he said. “There’s no doubt about that.”

But if it doesn’t turn around?

“I want to win,” he repeated. “I don’t know how else to say it besides that. I want to win.”

Jim Salisbury has more of the Q&A with the Phillies ace.

So it would seem from his comments last night that Lee would be okay with the Phillies dealing him again if they don't fight their way back into serious contention before the trade deadline.

This may be a good time to remember some sage advice: Don't trade Cliff Lee ever.
