Report: Antonio Bastardo Among Players Receiving 50-Game Suspension for Biogenesis Involvement

Aug 5, 2013, 12:44 PM EDT

source: According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo is among the players MLB will suspend 50 games for their involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. Rosenthal says that Bastardo will accept the 50-game suspension.

This tweet summed up my feelings on the matter quite nicely:

Bastardo was having a solid year with a 2.32 ERA being the lowest of his career but his SO/9 and SO/BB rates were down and he’s been handing out plenty of free passes per usual. Looks like a crappy bullpen will get even crappier.

More as we learn it…

They are called performance ENHANCING drugs, not performance drugs that make you walk batters in the eighth inning.

Oh, I get it, were gonna blame the lefty instead of the manager who has been misusing him all year! I get it it! He’s bad because he walks batters sometimes!!!

The fact that Manuel has never figured out how to use LH relievers since 2005 — IRRELEVANT —- but sometimes Bastardo is wild. Let’s blame the young reliever instead of the mentally challenged manager!

That’s it. The 2013 season is forever tainted because of Bastardo.

Phillies old pitcher Dan Meyer tweets about Bastardo’s situation… #nohardfeelings.
