Roy Halladay Completes Games, Me

Share

Things got a little dicey in the ninth, but six perfect pitches to Matt Stairs and Pudge Rodriguez finished off Roy Halladay's complete game, 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.

Doc was cruising into the ninth inning, sitting just over 100 pitches, but labored a bit in the final frame, allowing two runs to score before closing it out. He never relinquished the lead, however, and finished the game in exciting fashion. Will some people complain about Charlie allowing Halladay to get a little pitch happy in only his third start in April? Sure. Do we care? Absolutely not.

Doc's 10th career complete game for the Phillies improves his 2011 record to 2-0 and puts the Fightins at 8-3 on the year.

The Phils won the second game of the Washington series without any longballs. A Francisco groundout, Polanco single, and bases loaded Ryan Howard HBP put the three runs on the board. That proved to be enough with Doc doing his complete game thing.

Oh, and Cliff Lee for the fourth straight series victory tomorrow night.
