The Phillies ‘Big Apple’ 2013 MLB All-Star Statue Thing is Awful, Located in a Party City Store

Jun 26, 2013, 3:38 PM EDT

source: Sometimes Major League Baseball does things like create 35 giant apples decorated in the colors and theme of the different teams in its league to help promote the Mid Summer Classic. With the 2013 All-Star Game taking place in New York, they went with a Big Apple theme. Literally.

Here’s what MLB has to say about it:

The 35 MLB-themed All-Star Apple statues, each six feet tall and weighing more than 350 pounds, will appear at various New York locations as a dramatic harbinger of the 84th Midsummer Classic, to be played at Citi Field on July 16. Citi Field, home of the host Mets, is one of the notable locations for the statues, along with such landmarks as Grand Central Terminal, the Intrepid Museum and the New York Public Library.

And other landmarks such as a Party City store. Yep, the Phillies apple is apparently at a Party City based on the amazing video you can watch by clicking the link below.

You can get your very own replica for just about 20 bucks! Check it:

Probably best used to throw at something.

Irony: The Phils pick up Andrew W.K. at the trade deadline.

This is a good omen. We will all be looting party city for supplies after we win the World Series.

    “Let’s check it out!”

“The Phillies have actually been one of the longest teams in baseball and in the National League.”

“The Liberty Bell, famous because it’s in Philadelphia.”

This is the best fucking thing ever.

It really is fantastic. I can’t stress that enough. That’s why I bolgged about it. People care.

I agree. Normally, my knee-jerk reaction would be “who cares?” or something else derivative, but not this time.

OK, i have watched all 16 of ExtremeFan18′s videos related to the All Star Game apples (I also watched portions of his 28 other videos on YouTube, because I hate myself).

The only location that might be lamer than Party City is Bed Bath & Beyond, which is where the Angels apple is.

If you wanna check out some of the best efforts from my boy EF18, I would recommend the Brewers or the Brooklyn Dodgers, where he talks about the Dodgers versing the Yankees.

The Phanatic is phucking awesome both as a mascot and as a representative of Philadelphia. He puts all others to shame. It is awesome to have him on our apple, Could you imagine anyone else; Amaro, Howard, or Wheeler? Are the other apples adorned with mascots also?

hm, five mystery teams. New York Knights?

I’m a 4 for 4 philly native but live in NYC now (for work. i know, i suck). The party city is at 14th and 6th. Would love to wheel this thing out. Like tonight.

Here is a map of the apples:

The Yankees one is in a modells so there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to the placement of these apples, other than the mets desperately needing the $ because they’re awful and poor

The Phanatic is so phresh. I love when he does “The Streak” or some other relevant dance number. Oh can he please make sure he blocks more people’s views during the 7th inning of close games. Lets keep this awesome tradition alive.

    • Hiccup - Jun 26, 2013 at 6:15 PM

Yeah, I wonder about that sometimes; you know… how do people react when the Phanatic is blocking peoples’ view of big plays. Some times the Phanatic is watching while people behind him are craning their necks peering around the big green creature.( funny stuff ).
As a fan of clowns and comedians the Phanatic ranks as one of the best up there with Red Skeleton, The Three Stooges, Cosmo Kramer, etc etc. He has the timing, movement and material down pat. I don’t know of a mascot that comes close to his skills.
