Vance Worley Pitches Tonight, But Who Will Pitch On Wednesday?

"We don't know yet," [Charlie] Manuel said. "Seriously, we don't."

As the Inq's Matt Gelb pointed out late Monday night, the Phillies are in a bit of a bind, and there are no obvious solutions. Thanks to last Friday's rain-out and subsequent double header on Sunday, after tonight the Phils will have blown through their entire rotation over four days instead of the usual five. Who is available to pitch against the Pirates on Wednesday?

Gelb looks at the prospect of moving everybody's start up by one day ("unlikely"), calling up Wednesday's scheduled starter from either Lehigh Valley ("a lefty who spent 10 seasons in the minors") or Reading ("21-year-old with 14 starts above Single A"), even handing the game over to the bullpen ("may be counter intuitive.")

None sounds very promising.

Several weeks back, while discussing Joe Blanton's struggles -- solid outing for the big guy last night BTW -- we pointed out they had limited options for replacing a struggling starter, noting another injury could be problematic as well. We didn't account for a double header necessitating a one-off spot start.

Check out Gelb's article, as he covers seemingly every possible scenario for Wednesday night, then tell us who you think the Phils should go with tomorrow.
