Phillie Phanatic bests Jose Bautista in spring fitness contest

You hear every spring that assorted MLB players are in the best shape of their lives. Heck, by the time Opening Day comes, it seems that nearly the entire league has made that declaration.

And now the Phillie Phanatic can join the legions of baseball players in good — or at least better — shape.

The Phanatic showed off his, um, physique in a fitness contest with Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista. The contest began with the Phanatic mirroring Bautista's pre-game warmups. Eventually, the buff Phillies' mascot defeated his opponent with some one-armed push-ups straight out of a Rocky montage after Bautista topped the mascot with an impressive handstand.

After the Phanatic had pulled off the surprising upset, he brought a mix of sportsmanship and Bautista's patented showmanship. After shaking hands with his opponent, the Phanatic flashed his chest at Bautista, who returned to his baseball-filled day job.

Bautista went 0 for 3 in the Phillies' 8-5 win over the Blue Jays in Clearwater, Florida (see game recap).
