These have been trying times to be a Phillies fan but after dropping 11-straight games on the road Cole Hamels and the Phillies found a way to earn the 'W' on Monday night in Atlanta. Not only did Hamels earn the impressive win but rookie third baseman Cody Asche gave us a real nice glimmer of hope for the future by having himself one heck of a baseball game.

Kid ain't afraid to get dirty

Asche first wowed in the field when he made a nasty play on a ball that looked to be headed up the middle for a base hit in the third inning. Asche dove to his left and made a very nice stop, hopped right up and made a quick turn and throw that was in time to get Andrelton Simmons.

Oh, to be young and at third base.

Cody added to his big day by doing it at the dish too. He belted a big three-run blast in the sixth to give Hamels the 4-run cushion. He also singled to center in the ninth and would later score on a Chooch single to give Cole a little extra to work with.

All in all, one of the more exciting days from a Phillies youngster in a while.

That Hamels kid wasn't too bad himself.

And a big congrats to Charlie Manuel who earned the 1,000th win as Manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Jim Salisbury has more on that here.
