Watch Roy Halladay’s retirement press conference live

Dec 9, 2013, 11:53 AM EDT

In a sense, it’s nice to see Roy Halladay know that his body has nothing left to give the game of baseball. But damn it if it’s not sad to see one of the most likable Phillies hang it up having never achieved his dream of hoisting the World Series Trophy.

source: The chances of that happening in 2014 seemed pretty damn unlikely for Roy, but watching him make it official still won’t be easy.

Get out a box of tissues and check back around 12:30 pm as Halladay will once again become a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization for a day so he can hang it up from the winter meetings down in Florida.

He’ll undoubtedly go out with class and style. Any Phillies fan won’t want to miss this.

Previously: Roy Halladay is retiring

And while we’re waiting for that to get underway, how about one last listen to Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen’s call of Doc’s no-hitter against the Reds in the playoffs:

What a shame…I knew there was trouble there when I didn’t see his name mentioned in Any articles about this season’s pitching…

The writing’s been on the wall the past couple of years. Deep down, I had hoped he’d figure out what was wrong and bounce right back. It’s sad to see a great finally walkaway from the game. At least he was able to leave on his terms and on the tail-end of his prime rather than flounder for a couple more years.

Guess Amaro wasn’t kidding when he said starting pitching would be a priority at these Winter meetings.

    Yo. I’m crying.

Good riddance. We paid 80 mil for a guy who couldnt get us a world series. Worst signing Ruben has ever made.
