Well That Was Fun: Reds Scrape Together Run, Beat Phillies in Ten Minutes

Don't know how much drama we expected from a 19-hour-delayed bottom of the
ninth inning, but this coda to last night's scoreless, postponed
Phillies-Reds game didn't provide it. Philippe Aumont took the hill
against the heart of the Reds' order, surrendered a base hit and a walk,
a runner reached on error to load the bases, and then Jay Bruce knocked
him home with a single to right. Two hits, one walk, one error, zero
outs, one run. The game re-started at 5:32, and by 5:42 it was over:
Reds 1, Phillies 0.

The only thing of interest from this
fraction of a fraction of a baseball game was that error sandwiched in
the middle there--courtesy of center-fielder Ben Revere. The play he
failed to make was not even close to the degree of difficulty of the
couple of highlight-worthy catches he made two nights ago--particularly
the insane leaping one
he made to rob Todd Frazier of extra bases--but rather, a routine-ish
(for an outfielder like Revere, anyway) running catch that just bounced
off his glove after he misjudged it. Blame the sun, blame the early
start time, blame the boringness of the game the night before, but
Revere probably shoulda had that one, and it's kind of a bitterly ironic
way to lose this one. Whatever.

6-8 for the Phils now. Stew
about it for an hour, then report back to the GAP for a 7:10 first pitch
tonight. Hooray John Lannan!
