Zolecki points to Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs as strong broadcast booth finalists

Pitchers and catchers report in just about a week and Comcast SportsNet and the Philadelphia Phillies have yet to make their final decision as to who will be calling games on TV this season.

MLB's Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki points to former Phillies Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs as being the strongest candidates remaining, with a real possibility that they could be in the booth together.

Sources said this week the network has been speaking to both Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs about joining Tom McCarthy in the broadcast booth. The network originally planned to hire just one color commentator to replace Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews, whom the network declined to bring back as part of its recently negotiated 25-year contract with the Phillies. But those plans apparently changed following strong auditions by both.

Both men were obviously very well liked for their role in bringing a parade down Broad Street. How likable they'd be in a TV booth remains to be seen, but I'd guess fans would welcome both players. At least until they lose a few games. Then the boos come out.

Stairs of course was in town last week to pound some beers at Wing Bowl.
