Allen Iverson's Sixers Career in 25 YouTube Clips

Share

News came down yesterday afternoon (reported, appropriately enough, by SLAM Magazine) that Allen Iverson, polarizing Sixers great and likely future Hall of Famer, has finally accepted the inevitable, and will be announcing his retirement imminently. Iverson played 12 seasons for the Sixers (two of them incomplete) and over those years, he won four scoring titles and an MVP award, made the playoffs seven times and the finals once, and was elected to eight All-Star Games. He currently ranks first among the Sixers all-time in three-pointers made and second in points, steals, minutes played and free-throws made--though the numbers only go part of the way to explaining the cultural impact AI had on both this city and the NBA at large, and the way he simply defined Philadelphia basketball for over a decade.

You'll probably be reading a lot of glowing (and maybe a couple not-so-glowing) remembrances of the Allen Iverson era in the days to come, all by writers more qualified to write on the subject from a historical perspective than I. Instead, I wanted to compile a set of YouTube clips which, when watched in order, basically tell the story of AI's time in Philadelphia--the on-court highlights, the emotional low points, the WTF? moments, and so on. Hopefully browsing through all 25 will be a better testament to The Answer's impact than any essay I could write. With Allen Iverson, you always sort of just had to watch, anyway.
