Why Is Allen Iverson Talking about How He’s ‘Ready’ to Play Russian Roulette?

Jun 25, 2013, 2:39 PM EDT

I don’t know what’s going on with Allen Iverson.

One minute, he’s broke. The next, he’s got plenty of money stashed away. Later, he’s kidnapped his own kids, except he didn’t kidnap his own kids.

All this is sandwiched around a profile from the Washington Post that should have just about anyone concerned for the former Sixer’s well-being. And that profile came after years of reports about his struggles with addictions to gambling and alcohol.

And now he’s on camera talking about being “ready” to play Russian roulette with a fully-loaded gun, which sort of takes the “roulette” aspect out of it:

The video above was originally posted on Grantland. We found it via Ball Don’t Lie, which got it from Deadspin. As you can tell, it’s getting around.

The clip is from an online reality series called About Billions, depicting the life of WBA Welterweight champ Adrien Broner, who appears to be patterning his image after Floyd Mayweather.

Here’s his back and forth with Iverson, which features bystanders laughing:

IVERSON: “I’m ready to play Russian Roulette.

Broner: “Fully-loaded pistol.”

IVERSON: “Damn sure ready to play Russian Roulette.”

Broner: “With a fully-loaded pistol. This is a fully-loaded pistol. You gotta spin it. It don’t matter how many times you spin it — “

IVERSON: “You think I don’t know?”

Broner: “The first shot you dead.”

IVERSON: “You think I don’t know?”

For all I know, Broner asked Iverson to make troubling comments on tape to increase views for his reality series, which, until now, there’s a likely chance you weren’t aware of.

Ball Don’t Lie’s Kelly Dwyer couched it like this, “Iverson isn’t depicted as being worse for wear or lacking funds in this clip, but it’s certainly not a cheery back and forth, and we hope that the dialogue is … posturing, with no substance behind it.”

Like I said, I don’t know what’s actually going on in Allen Iverson’s life. I just know that I’ve now read, heard and seen enough to think things aren’t great. Whether he actually feels this way, or was just given incentive to say he does, either case is troubling.

Dear Lord, please watch over this man and guide him through these troubling times.
Dear Lord, please don’t let anyone get hurt.
Dear Allen, what are you doing other than setting a poor example to our already troubled youth.

I load it for you Alan. You’ve had everything handed to you your entire life and you’re nothing but a broke-ass thug. LOL.
