Wiggins Watch: Sixers say nothing (which obviously means they really covet Andrew Wiggins, right?)

Share

Wiggins Watch hit code red this week with the Kansas standout roaming the streets of Philadelphia and hitting the Sixers practice facility on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sam Hinkie clearly wanted an up close evaluation.

The Sixers were mum. Aside from delivering some friendly donuts to the media.

BUT WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

We've touched on many of the rumors surrounding Wiggins already, but yesterday CSNPhilly.com columnist John Gonzalez, a frequent visitor to Sixers' practices at PCOM, weighed in with his opinion. He thinks the silence speaks volumes.

But when Hinkie was hired, he said something that was worth remembering: He and his closest confidants were unlikely to leak important information. There has been precious little information on the Wiggins front, at least as far as leaks from the Sixers side go.

Call it a hunch or reading between the lines. Call it folly. (There certainly was plenty of that involved in standing on a PCOM curb for hours in an attempt to talk to a player the Sixers might never draft.) Call it whatever you like. But this feels like the Sixers dig the cut of Wiggins’ jib above all other jibs. (What’s a jib?) From everything that’s been said behind the scenes and everything that’s unfolded in front of it, it feels like Wiggins is the guy they value above all others.

WHO KNOWS WHAT IT ALL MEANS?!? Nobody but Hinkie, probably.

But I will say, it makes me happy that it "feels like Wiggins is the guy" as opposed to it feeling like Wiggins wasn't the guy. Right? Or is this all the Hinkie no-smoke smoke screen?

Whether they can pull it off remains to be seen.

When is the damn draft already...
