Screen shot 2013-05-15 at 1.56.52 PM

“Talk about your all-time backfires.” A brief diversion from the local sports scene. Can’t claim to know much about the situation, so here’s a short intro via Deadspin: The Korean league’s Lotte Giants fell 6-4 to the last-place NC Dinos today, capped off by an embarrassing at-bat for outfielder Jeon Jun-woo. In the ninth inning,…

  2. Michael Vick Ignored Prison Warnings: ‘I thought money could get me out of any situation’

    May 15, 2013, 1:15 PM EDT

Screen shot 2013-05-15 at 1.07.06 PM

For the most part, it seems like Michael Vick has tried to turn his life around since being released from federal prison — speaking out against animal cruelty, paying his creditors, getting married, taking care of a family dog. Of course, the reason he was in federal prison is the same reason many will be…

  3. Lawsuit Filed Against Nick Young for Alleged Date Rape

    May 14, 2013, 10:31 PM EDT

A woman has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Sixers guard Nick Young as well as a West Hollywood bar for an incident that took place in the summer of 2011 in Los Angeles. The suit alleges that the woman accepted a glass of champagne from Young at a bar and after drinking it,…

  4. TMZ: LeSean McCoy Being Sued for Alleged Party Bus Assault

    May 14, 2013, 2:06 PM EDT

LeSean McCoy has been yucking it up at the NovaCare Complex a lot lately, challenging Michael Vick to races, acting like he didn’t know Matt Barkley’s first name. Some of his hijinks allegedly are not so benign. According to a report from TMZ (via CBS Philly), a woman has filed a lawsuit against Shady claiming…

  5. Watch American Surfer and Crazy Man Garrett McNamara Ride a 100-Foot Wave, Not Kill Himself

    Feb 1, 2013, 1:05 PM EDT

Every now and then you see some guys trying to surf the Jersey Shore pretending that they’re riding a 100-foot, record-breaking wave. Well, a guy named Garrett McNamara actually is.

Separately, is this McNamara, a Boston native, any relation to the kid from the Little League game in Good Will Hunting? Point Break and Along Came Polly also inside. Kill some time.

  6. Brooklyn Nets’ Andray Blatche Taken into Custody, Questioned in Philadelphia

    Jan 8, 2013, 1:38 PM EDT

Some ugly news out of the Four Seasons Hotel on the parkway, as the Brooklyn Nets’ Andray Blatche was one of three men taken into custody overnight and questioned by police in connection with a possible sexual assault, according to a report from NBC10. Per the report: Police tell NBC10 that a 21-year-old woman was…

  7. Who Is the Worst Athlete in Philadelphia?

    Nov 15, 2012, 12:10 PM EDT

The sports scene in Philadelphia hasn’t been a whole lot of fun lately, but sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and revel in the terribleness. 94WIP’s Angelo Cataldi gave his list of the six worst athletes in town on Thursday’s morning show, and while we don’t necessarily agree with his list in…

  8. Video: Jason Babin Said a Few Eagles Fans Were Chanting the Most Vile Things He’s Ever Heard in His Life

    Nov 2, 2012, 1:58 AM EDT

Here’s the clip of Jason Babin talking about the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad scene at the Linc last week when apparently a small number of fans — a couple of bad apples, if you will — were chanting some of the most vile things that the Eagles defensive end has ever heard.

Now, I don’t doubt Mr. Babin for one second. Based on comments left on Internet websites and on Twitter, nothing surprises me any longer. But Babin’s comments intrigue me a little. Did Philly fans all of a sudden come up with phrases that he’d never heard before? Now I want to know more.

  9. Kobe: ‘What was I supposed to do? Pass it to … Kwame Brown?’

    Oct 11, 2012, 1:50 PM EDT

Sixers fans have to be excited about some of the new additions to the team. But if Kobe Bryant couldn’t win an MVP while playing alongside Kwame Brown, how could Andrew Bynum?

  10. Why Is Eagles Corner DRC Dressed Up as Batman?

    Sep 27, 2012, 4:02 PM EDT

    A couple of things here:

    1. That is Eagles corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie wearing a batman outfit as his everyday street attire.

    2. That is what the man apparently picked out of his closet when he woke up in the morning.

  11. Jayson Werth Was Just Looking Out for the Little Innocent Children of Philadelphia

    Sep 27, 2012, 10:08 AM EDT

Kyle Kendrick and his red hot late summer came back down to Earth last night against the Washington Nationals when he gave up three home runs in the first two innings and was promptly pulled after just 2.0 innings of work. Kendrick spoke after the game and made a point that it’s not easy being consistent in this game. If he went eight shutout innings every night he’d be the Cy Young.

Instead of 8 innings of shutout ball he finished with a line of 2.0 IP, 5 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 2 BB, 1 K, and those three long balls. Not consistent.

  12. Shady McCoy Refuels Osi Umenyiora Feud, Calls Giant a ‘Ballerina’

    Sep 25, 2012, 2:03 PM EDT

Ah, nothing like rekindling an old feud with the New York Giants.

In a piece that will air on ESPN’s “E:60″ this evening, Shady McCoy said that he couldn’t say what he really wanted to on Twitter to respond to Giants defender Osi Umenyiora’s Mother’s Day trash talk over the summer due to his contract situation being unresolved. Now that Shady’s been paid, he can speak freely. And wiseacrely.

  13. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Rocks the Pink Shades

    Sep 9, 2012, 8:02 PM EDT

You know how the old saying goes: look good, feel good, play good.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie rolled in to Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sunday rocking a pink shirt, pink pants, and pink glasses with no lenses.

  16. Iverson Offered Contract! (…to Play Indoor Soccer in Rochester)

    Feb 20, 2012, 11:40 AM EDT

The Rochester Lancers of the Major Indoor Soccer League are cashing in on Allen Iverson’s recent misfortunes by offering the 11-time All-Star and 2001 NBA MVP a “unique offer” to play for the team in its final regular season games of 2012.

  17. Terrell Suggs Is the Man, Calls Skip Bayless a D-Bag

    Jan 23, 2012, 12:13 PM EDT

Now we’re extra sad that Baltimore couldn’t pull out a win yesterday because Terrell Suggs is the man. Although, I suppose if the Ravens had won, we never would have gotten this TV gem.

  18. Bane of Existence: The Pittsburgh Steelers Can’t Catch a Break

    Dec 20, 2011, 4:04 PM EDT

  19. WATN: Judge Issues Bench Warrant for Terrell Owens

    Nov 5, 2011, 3:51 PM EDT

Remember that workout TO held last month, which made news primarily because no NFL teams showed up for it? Well, according to TMZ, Owens skipped a child support hearing in order to be there. A California judge has issued a warrant for his arrest.

  20. Flyer Fights: Sestito’s Gonna Get a Shanny; Avery’s Threats, Simmonds Uses Slur

    Sep 26, 2011, 10:07 PM EDT

The preseason’s not even over yet, and the Flyers are in all likelihood about to have their second player suspended. Jody Shelley was the first to receive a detailed video explanation by new disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, and I’ll be shocked if Tom Sestito doesn’t join him tomorrow. In the first period of what would become a rough preseason tilt between the Flyers and the New York Rangers, Sestito took a few full strides before smearing Andre Deveaux from behind. Unfortunately, Wayne Simmonds is said to have yelled a homophobic slur at Sean Avery.

    Aug 6, 2011, 1:10 PM EDT

Saw this great pic by Kelley L. Cox of US Presswire and just had to share. The guys look pretty badass after their scrap with what I guess we can consider their biggest rival at the moment.
