Take a look at the top prospects in this year’s NFL Draft, and you’ll find many of them have something in common. With the exception of a select few players – namely Geno Smith, Dion Jordan, and Dee Milliner – the overwhelming majority of athletes the Eagles are expected to be weighing with the fourth-overall pick are either offensive or defensive linemen.

The Flyers were eliminated from playoff contention – technically, mathematically, and otherwise this time – by virtue of a Rangers victory on Friday, marking the first time since 1994 that all four major professional sports franchises in Philadelphia missed the postseason in succession.

We look for a lot of the same things every year as soon as the NFL schedule comes out. When do the Eagles play the Cowboys and Giants? How many national TV games did the Birds get? Which away game will make for the best road trip? (Denver is probably lovely in late September.)
How did the schedule makers screw Philly this time?
This year we had a little bonus to look forward to: when would Andy Reid return to town? And we won’t have to wait very long.

Brent Celek’s Prime Stache American Bistro is coming Old City. DeSean will likely be on the menu. Get it? Hot dogs? Wait up, guys.

His first mini-camp as Eagles head coach is only slated to wrap up today, but talk of the impact Chip Kelly is making in Philadelphia has already begun to spread. He’s brought from Oregon his famed up-tempo practices, hip-hop music is blaring at the NovaCare Complex, and players are enjoying post-workout smoothies customized to their own personal diet.

Members of the media might want to proceed with caution when trying to pin down Chip Kelly on the Eagles’ draft plans. He might just put you on the spot.
Apr 16, 2013, 1:04 PM EST
The University of Oregon and the NCAA agree that the football program under Chip Kelly’s leadership committed “major violations.” Kelly released a statement today saying that he’s been cooperative with the NCAA investigation but would not comment further until the NCAA made a ruling on the matter.

The 2013 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and the Eagles are sitting on the fourth pick overall. They’ve already filled some of their needs through free agency, perhaps even a few trades, but the true reshaping of this organization’s philosophies is going to be on full display during the selection process.

The Andy Reid days in Philadelphia are over. And with them go the expectations we used to have come draft day. We knew what Andy liked and almost came to anticipate linemen with the Eagles first picks. That’s if he didn’t trade it. Enter Chip Kelly. We don’t have any idea which direction Chipper will go in when the clock is ticking.

Of course, when the Philadelphia Eagles actually win something it’s a dumb Internet poll on the greatest play in NFL history. So congrats to DeSean Jacskon for his Miracle at the Meadowlands 2 being voted as the greatest play in NFL history. I’m going to take a screen cap of my Internet browser open to that NFL.com page and then print it out, blow it up, frame it, and hang it next to my copy of the 2008 Daily News of the Phillies winning the World Series.

When you see that jorted fellow at the Molly Pitcher Service Area today be sure to give him an extra dirty look. Today’s a big day.

In what it turns out may have been a bit of foreshadowing, last month we wrote this after Cullen Jenkins signed with the Giants: Now if Mike Patterson were to wind up in Dallas next, that could be a bitter pill to swallow. While the Eagle of eight seasons didn’t do that exactly, it’s close.

These videos from the Philadelphia Police Department are never pleasant. Thankfully this one didn’t end up in someone getting shot like they frequently do. Instead, an unruly and violent customer wearing a Dallas Cowboys jacket assaults a clerk at an establishment known as “Beer Heaven” on Columbus Blvd. in South Philly. The violent man tosses a bottle at the clerk before brandishing a gun and kicking him several times.

This might not surprise you as much as it saddens you, but Nnamdi Asomugha found a job in the NFL. Yes, as a cornerback. What? Of course I’m serious.

That pretty much says all you need to know about Kevin Kolb and his new home with the Buffalo Bills. The Onion’s best headlines are always those that touch home to reality. And Profootballtalk’s “Arrival of Kevin Kolb won’t keep Bills from drafting a quarterback” is pretty close to what the Onion decided to go with.

Now for some good news. The NovaCare Complex reopened for business on Monday, and word is plenty of Eagles players have already arrived to participate in workouts. Among those were left tackle Jason Peters, who assures us he is still “the number one offensive lineman in the league.”

Donovan McNabb stopped being absolutely boring for once and finally voiced an actual opinion on something. The topic? Tony Romo’s new six-year contract extension with a reported $55 million in guaranteed money.

Fun fact: there is no fullback in Chip Kellys offense, at least not in the traditional sense anyway. For that reason, the Eagles shipped Stanley Havili to the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday in exchange for defensive end Clifton Geathers.

It wasn’t long ago when wide receiver was considered a huge strength for the Eagles, but less than two years later, the shine has worn off.

The Eagles addressed one of the most concerning aspects of their roster on Monday: the punter. Yes, Philadelphia’s punter carousel continued with the release Mat McBriar, who was replaced by former Houston Texan Donnie Jones, the club’s third new punter in as many years.

In retrospect, the Eagles’ 2012 season was over before it ever got started. It was right around this time last year when they were hit with the bad news that would destroy them.
All-world left tackle Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon during a private workout last March, and again while trying to get around his house three weeks later. The front office went into scramble mode, quickly re-signing King Dunlap, then chasing down the top free agent available in Demetress Bell. Everyone prayed for the best.

Is Chip Kelly bringing “Moneyball” to the NFL? Don’t laugh. As the world continues to define what the Eagles’ head coach will do at the pro level before he’s even held so much as a single practice, there have been some suggesting Kelly will rely heavily on analytics – think Football Outsiders – to dictate his decision making.
But there’s a problem with that line of thinking. Chip Kelly says the Moneyball story has a serious plot hole.

Ah, March Madness. The time of year when you have to fill the bracket for best food to be topped with bacon or something more important the best 90s cartoon characters. The NFL is getting in on the act with the best plays of all time. Which actually makes for some interesting discussion.
