The Flyers may have lost with few positives outside of the play of their goaltender, but the game also featured something almost as rare as an Islanders win at the Wells Fargo Center. Below, peek the seldom seen Claude Giroux fight video.

The Flyers’ dominance over the New York Islanders in recent seasons is well documented and increasingly not even worth the key strokes to detail again. The Isle have fallen from their heyday, and the future is not exactly promising either.
But ‘dominance’ is part of tonight’s storyline, in that it has factored into Peter Laviolette’s decision to start Sergei Bobrovsky over Ilya Bryzgalov despite Bryz having a very good outing against the Wild on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day we posted a wonderful photo of Max Talbot riding a bicycle on stage at the Flyers Wives Fashion Show. We thought it was ripe for a good caption, but, as Level readers often do, regular commenter will.H had a better idea: get Evan Turner — often times dubbed the “Extraterrestrial” — into a basket on the front of that bike.

The Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival has been around longer than most of us here at the Level have been alive. It’s where we shot on Ron Hextall to varying results. The 35th annual Flyers Carnival will take place next month on February 12, but the Flyers wives added a new wrinkle this year as they held their very own fashion show last night.

Chris’s wife Lauren was at the fashion event put on by the Flyers’ wives last night and talked about how her husband is dealing with the symptoms and the fact that he’s not out there on the ice helping his team. It makes you want to forget about hockey for a while and just hope the guy feels better one of these days simply so he can live a better life.

It must feel good to be home… and to play the Wild there. The Flyers made short work of the league’s second-worst offense, dispatching Minnesota 5-1 and dropping them to 0-8-2 on the road since December 10. That’s right, but for one minor hiccup, everything was coming up orange and black on Tuesday night.

Paul Holmgren’s makeover of the Philadelphia Flyers this past off-season is still fresh in our minds midway through the season. The makeup of the team changed somewhat dramatically, catching nearly everyone outside of the club’s front office entirely by surprise. But it wasn’t Homer’s first time hitting the reset button on a Flyers roster — just the first time he did it with a winning team. Two players he targeted when initially rebuilding the club the four years ago were Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen, who visit the first NHL city they called home tonight with the Flyers in Nashville to face the Predators.
Below, a look at the Flyers first transformation under Holmgren, and how the conjoined paths of an unlikely duo survived hockey depravity in Nashville and another roster implosion in Philadelphia.

At a time when fans and media alike are wondering the degree to which James van Riemsdyk is slowed by a possible hip injury, and trade rumors once again encircle the third-year Flyer, he’ll now be sidelined with a concussion.

It wasn’t pretty up on Long Island, but the Flyers escaped with a 3-2 win in a brilliant performance by Sergei Bobrovsky. Scott Hartnell, Wayne Simmonds, and Sean Couturier each scored, with the third being the definition of a necessary insurance goal. Video highlights, plus a look at the elbow Max Talbot took via Steve Staios.

Sergei Bobrovsky will be rewarded for his stellar play against the Hurricanes with another start tonight. I’m surprised only because when I saw he was facing the ‘Canes, a team that can score, I half thought that Lavy was setting up Ilya Bryzgalov with the easier of the two easy matchups this week.

The 2011 portion of the Flyers’ 2011-2012 season was to be the great unknown when the team took the ice in October. No one knew exactly how the surprising reshaping of the team would work out, as it’s never so simple as putting good players together and letting them play (ask the Eagles).

Our Philadelphia Flyers hockey club has been through a gauntlet of challenging teams and scenarios lately, including playing elite competition, a grueling stretch of away games, and the scrutiny of playing in the sport’s most visible game, followed by the top team in the West and a home-and-home with an upstart conference foe. Fans, players, coaches, and owners alike probably wouldn’t have it any other way. While the stretch hasn’t been easy, it’s been a great experience.

Perhaps it was the less than stellar showing in the fan All-Star voting that motivated G to get back on to Twitter, but whatever the reason may be, it’s awesome to have the most entertaining athlete on the ice in Philadelphia on the Internet for 140 characters at a time.

It would have been perfect. The “home” team scores with seconds remaining in regulation — perhaps on a made-for-TV penalty shot — to send the game into overtime. Once in the extra time, the “Philly” team gets one past the opposing goalie, triggering 45,000+ at Citizens Bank Park to go Bonkers.

A look at how once again, scoring depth has been the key to a strong Philadelphia Flyers team. But, another spate of Pittsburgh Penguins injuries begs the question, how deep is any NHL team?

Danny Briere was a busy guy on Saturday. Not only did he score all three Flyers goals to earn his fifth career hat trick, but he even mixed it up in a good fight. Thanks to Briere’s toughness and outstanding all-around effort, the Flyers were able to outlast the Ottawa Senators, picking up their two points in the final seconds of overtime.

Danny Briere dropped the gloves for just the third time in his career on Saturday against Ottawa Senators’ Kyle Turris.
