In recent games against the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, the Flyers have given reason for doubt that they’re among the Eastern Conference elite. True, they did beat the Bruins and spoil the Garden’s Stanley Cup raising banner, but a 6-0 loss in mid December and three losses to the Rangers have left the Flyers with plenty to prove.
Unfortunately, they’ll be shorthanded as hell when they try. Already without their towering defensive foil to Boston’s Zdeno Chara, the Flyers lost Jaromir Jagr and Danny Briere yesterday. Will they have enough firepower without them to crack one of the league’s stingiest defenses and its unquestioned top goaltender?
There are a few things in the Flyers favor, and a few factors decidedly against them…

Cross the Flyers’ home winning streak over the Islanders off the ledger, replace it with 0-1-0 on games after fashion shows.* Sergei Bobrovsky gave the Flyers all they could possibly ask for, but at times, he might as well have been on the ice by himself. Evgeni Nabokov and the Islanders defense kept the Flyers off the board until halfway through the third period, then finished them off, 4-1, with an empty netter.

The Flyers may have lost with few positives outside of the play of their goaltender, but the game also featured something almost as rare as an Islanders win at the Wells Fargo Center. Below, peek the seldom seen Claude Giroux fight video.
