  1. Video: Chris Pronger Destroys David Backes

    Oct 22, 2011, 11:04 PM EDT

It was a pretty ugly night for the Flyers, but among the highlights for the home team was this de-skating of the Blues’ David Backes by Chris Pronger.

  2. Ill Communication: Flyers’ Lapses Ugly in Loss to Blues

    Oct 22, 2011, 10:56 PM EDT

Philly sports fans had just one game to tune in to or catch down at the complex this weekend, and after having watched it… I hope you had something better to do. If so, but you still want The Update, read on.

For the second straight game, the Flyers outshot their opponents yet lost convincingly. Despite coming off a night of rest when the Blues were playing for the second time in as many days, and had arrived in Philadelphia close to 4 AM, the Flyers were outplayed by St. Louis on Saturday night and lost by a 4-2 count.

Defensive miscues and poor communication between the blueliners and goaltender combined with some good bounces for the Blues to doom the Flyers, who had trouble with pucks and players close to their own net. Credit Blues goalie Brian Elliott for giving his team the opportunity to win this one, and his forwards for cashing in when the Flyers defense and goaltending failed to do the same. There was definitely plenty to talk about after this one, though a lot of it isn’t entirely pleasant. All that and some video highlights below.

  3. Game 7: St. Louis Blues at Philadelphia Flyers Blues Music edition

    Oct 22, 2011, 4:11 PM EDT

Tonight in South Philly, the Flyers will need to do something they haven’t had to do as a group yet—play on the heels of a sound beating. They took one at the hands of the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, marking their first non-OT loss of the season, and while it’s nothing to worry about (really, nothing short of a major injury is cause for concern this early in the season), it will be interesting to see how the team responds.

    Oct 20, 2011, 10:21 PM EDT

This one got out of hand in a hurry in the third period when the Caps scored 3 goals in the first 4 minutes of the period putting this one out of reach and sending many fans over to ESPN2 to see what the Union had cooking.

  8. Drubbing: Flyers Score 7 in Win Over Sens as Harry Z Trends Worldwide

    Oct 18, 2011, 10:50 PM EDT

What a night from the youngsters, eh? On the postgame following the game Rick Tocchet called Tuesday’s 7-2 win in Ottawa a “drubbing” and that pretty much nailed it.

  12. Mike Richards, Justin Williams Help Deliver Flyers’ First Loss

    Oct 15, 2011, 10:14 PM EDT

The Flyers lost their first game of the season, done in by the efforts of a few former members of the team—Mike Richards, Justin Williams, and Simon Gagne, but also a great game by Quick.

  13. Game 4: Los Angeles Kings at Philadelphia Flyers Richie’s Return

    Oct 15, 2011, 2:18 PM EDT

We’ve already talked quite a bit about Mike Richards’ return to Philly tonight, both here and over at Puck Daddy this morning. Given how infrequently the Flyers play the Kings, it feels a bit odd to have the event happen so quickly. Four games into the season, the Flyers will have played the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, who bounced them last season, the rival Devils, and the Western Conference Champs, plus their former captain, who was dealt in one of the most shocking trades in franchise history this summer.

Fortunately for the front office, the early returns have been outstanding. Can you imagine what the past few days of coverage would have been like if the Flyers were winless rather than undefeated when Richards came to town?

    Oct 14, 2011, 9:33 AM EDT

Former Flyers scrapper Arron Asham threw down with non-pugilist Jay Beagle during last night’s 3-2 Capitals win over the Penguins, and man did he beat the poop out of him. Here’s video of the fight, but also what Asham regrets doing after the fight.

    Oct 13, 2011, 2:26 PM EDT

    Oct 12, 2011, 10:33 PM EDT

The Flyers faithful came into Wednesday night’s home opener with high expectations following the team’s 2-0 start to the season on the road. The South Philly opener was ugly at times, but the orange and black sent the fans home happy with a 5-4 victory. The Flyers showed that while the Giroux and Jagr are the star-studded line to watch, the team is well-balanced, with nine different players registering at least a point in tonight’s win.

  23. It’s Only Two Games, But We’ll Take It

    Oct 12, 2011, 10:54 AM EDT

One week into the new NHL season, we’re excited to see the Flyers putting up a pair of road wins against rival clubs, including the defending Stanley Cup champs. Hell, we’re just excited to have hockey back to rid us of the memories of last season’s collapse, the early departure for the 2011 Phillies, and whatever the hell the Eagles are doing to us.
