  1. Ed Snider Talks Smack at Winter Classic Presser

    Sep 26, 2011, 3:55 PM EDT

Perhaps the best moment came when the Rangers GM Glen Sather started talking smack about the Flyers and how New York beat them on the way to Stanley Cups back in the day. Ed Snider fired right back.

  2. Official Winter Classic Announcement from CBP Today at 1:30

    Sep 26, 2011, 11:49 AM EDT

One of the main things we’ll be looking for out of the announcement is a first look at the official Winter Classic jerseys the Flyers will be wearing. Hopefully they’ll fill in some of the fun details about all of the events surrounding the game as well.

  3. Hey Jagr Scored Last Night (video)

    Sep 24, 2011, 9:24 AM EDT

We took a night off from Flyers preseason action last night, despite it being Jaromir Jagr’s debut in the color orange. It was hard not to continually peek at the scores (even harder given that I get text updates with every one), and see that Jags factored heavily into the Flyers’ 3-1 win over the Red Wings in Detroit. With moves like Jagr, it’s no surprise… (you kinda need to see the video below, which isn’t of last night’s goal or assist, but… you need to see it.)

  4. Jaromir Jagr Makes Flyers Debut Tonight in Detroit

    Sep 23, 2011, 4:44 PM EDT

The Flyers are back on the ice this evening in Detroit for more exciting preseason hockey (7:30 pm, 610 WIP). Tonight’s game against the Red Wings will mark the debut of Jaromir Jagr in a Flyers uniform. The game will not be televised but per a tweet from Flyers beat writer Sam Carchidi we believe the game will be watchable on the Flyers website.

  5. Appalling: Fan Throws Banana on Ice During Wayne Simmonds Shootout Attempt

    Sep 22, 2011, 10:48 PM EDT

I’m at a loss for words regarding what happened in London, Ontario, tonight. With the Flyers and Red Wings playing an exhibition game, the Flyers came back from an early deficit to end regulation tied. After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to a shootout. According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily News, a fan threw a banana onto the ice as Wayne Simmonds attempted his shot. Simmonds, who came to the Flyers as part of the trade for Mike Richards, is black.

  6. A New Era in NHL Discipline: Jody Shelley Suspension Explained by Brendan Shanahan Via Video

    Sep 22, 2011, 9:29 PM EDT

Analysis of Brendan Shanahan and the NHL’s new goal of player safety and disciplinary transparency, based on the example of Philadelphia Flyer Jody Shelley’s lengthy suspension for boarding Darryl Boyce of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

  7. Here’s a Winter Classic Logo On the Citizens Bank Park Jumbotron

    Sep 22, 2011, 3:20 PM EDT

I took this shot of the jumbotron at Citizens Bank Park prior to this evening’s game against the Washington Nationals. I wonder if the 2012 Winter Classic logo has anything to do with the big announcement the NHL will be making early next week?

  8. New 2012 Winter Classic Promo Video

    Sep 22, 2011, 2:08 PM EDT

A Level reader sent along a link to the follow video promoting the 2012 Winter Classic between the Flyers and Rangers at Citizens Bank Park. We’re not entirely sure if it’s an official video or not, but it’s well done either way. It also features a logo of the Winter Classic with the Liberty Bell in it, something we have not seen before either. [video below]

  9. Tomas Hyka Makes His Mark, But Flyers Lose Bryz’s Preseason Debut

    Sep 21, 2011, 10:07 PM EDT

We’re not gonna go nuts analyzing this one, save for letting those of you who didn’t watch the Flyers second preseason game know that they lost it by a 4-2 count, and didn’t look quite as good as they did the night before. Despite dressing a more veteran group on Wednesday night and starting their new starting goaltender, the Flyers lost at home to the Maple Leafs and were generally outplayed for most of the game.

There was understandable rust combined with some bad luck with deflections getting past Ilya Bryzgalov, and really, we’re not going to lose any sleep over a lackluster first preseason game from a team that saw a ton of turnover in the offseason. One forward stood out among the group though, both before and during the game.

  10. Flyer Fights: Jody Shelley Battles Jay Rosehill

    Sep 21, 2011, 9:54 PM EDT

Video: Jody Shelley of the Philadelphia Flyers fights Jay Rosehill of the Toronto Maple Leafs in preseason action at the Wells Fargo Center. Max Talbot has a quick scrap with Phillippe Dupuis after Dupuis put a big hit on Brayden Schenn.

  11. Ilya Bryzgalov Set to Debut on Philly Ice

    Sep 21, 2011, 5:25 PM EDT

Although last night’s 4-0 win over the Maple Leafs was a satisfying start to the Flyers’ preseason action, and we were all happy to see Bob notch a shutout, the most heralded new Flyer was not on the ice. In tonight’s rematch, we’ll get the opportunity to see Ilya Bryzgalov between the pipes and wearing the Orange & Black for the first time.

  12. Comment of the Week Sponsored By Misconduct Tavern

    Sep 21, 2011, 11:53 AM EDT

This week’s Comment of the Week Sponsored by Misconduct Tavern comes with the Flyers returning to the ice last night for some preseason action in Toronto.

  13. First Look: Flyers and Leafs in Preseason Action Tonight

    Sep 20, 2011, 5:50 PM EDT

It may be nothing more than a glorified scrimmage, but after months with no hockey following an awful exit from the playoffs, Flyers fans finally get to see some real live hockey tonight. At 7 PM on The Comcast Network, a mix-and-match group of Flyers including a Schenn and a Kessel will face a similar group of Leafs, also including a Schenn and a Wheeler (yes, they’re brothers). Tim Panaccio says the Flyers have Sergei Bobrovsky and Michael Leighton on the trip, so no first peek at Ilya Bryzgalov just yet.

  14. Video: James van Riemsdyk Hits Home Run at Citizens Bank Park

    Sep 19, 2011, 4:11 PM EDT

The Philadelphia Flyers took batting practice at Citizens Bank Park before Monday’s Phillies game. James van Riemsdyk stole the show by hitting a home run. Watch it here.

    Sep 16, 2011, 4:22 PM EDT

Chris Pronger becomes the 18th captain of the Flyers, with Danny Briere and Kimmo Timonen as alternates.

  16. JVR Visits PPL Park Again, Gets a Union Custom Jersey

    Sep 16, 2011, 11:07 AM EDT

On Saturday night, I’ll be at PPL Park for the third time in 11 days. Pretty standard stuff for your average Philadelphia Union fan. But the park got a return visit from a more notable fan yesterday, when Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk came to kick it around with Danny Califf for awhile.

The U had a custom 21 van Riemsdyk jersey waiting for him, as well as a sweet pair of Adidas Predators.

  17. Roundup and Video From Fan-Filled Flyers Rookie Game

    Sep 16, 2011, 9:24 AM EDT

Last night, the Flyers and Capitals played their annual rookie game, held this year at the Wells Fargo Center. I wasn’t down there, but it sounds like it was a pretty fun evening for all involved. Feels like forever since I’ve seen my twitter timeline blow up with actual game activity, and it certainly did last night. Here are a few of the storylines that came from the evening, which saw the lil’ Flyers top the mini Caps, 3-2, plus some video highlights.

  18. Flyers 2011-12 TV Schedule

    Sep 15, 2011, 1:59 PM EDT

You’ll be able to catch all 82 Flyers games on TV this season. Plus a few preseason games in the next couple of weeks. Comcast SportsNet, Versus, and The Comcast Network will air them. Even available on Comcast FiOs on Verizon FiOs.

    Sep 14, 2011, 12:47 PM EDT

The Flyers are cracking down on their players use of Twitter during business hours, but will they stop all of the fun?

    Sep 12, 2011, 10:22 AM EDT

Flyers star Claude Giroux spent his offseason training in Ottawa. We know this because he has a video to prove it.

  21. Brad McCrimmon’s Impact on the NHL Still Felt in Every Chris Pronger Hit

    Sep 9, 2011, 10:34 AM EDT

I’ve read quite a few tributes to McCrimmon since the news of his passing in the plane crash that took the lives of 42 people in Russia, some talking about the “Beast” on the ice, others the mentor on and off it. His story is more impressive with every different person you hear tell it, from Ed Snider to Howe, to Chris Pronger and others who played or coached with him in any of his six NHL cities.

  22. Flyers Confirm Season Ticket Holders Can Purchase Winter Classic Tickets

    Sep 7, 2011, 3:42 PM EDT

The Flyers informed their season ticket holders that they will have the ability to purchase Winter Classic tickets if they so choose.

  25. Ilya Bryzgalov and Family Take in the Betsy Ross House

    Sep 4, 2011, 8:05 AM EDT

This “Ilya Bryzgalov loves American history” story sure has some long legs. Now in Philadelphia and getting used to his new town, Ilya and his family visited the Betsy Ross House on Arch Street.

Here’s a video CSN put together
