  1. Tomas Hyka Makes His Mark, But Flyers Lose Bryz’s Preseason Debut

    Sep 21, 2011, 10:07 PM EDT

We’re not gonna go nuts analyzing this one, save for letting those of you who didn’t watch the Flyers second preseason game know that they lost it by a 4-2 count, and didn’t look quite as good as they did the night before. Despite dressing a more veteran group on Wednesday night and starting their new starting goaltender, the Flyers lost at home to the Maple Leafs and were generally outplayed for most of the game.

There was understandable rust combined with some bad luck with deflections getting past Ilya Bryzgalov, and really, we’re not going to lose any sleep over a lackluster first preseason game from a team that saw a ton of turnover in the offseason. One forward stood out among the group though, both before and during the game.

    Sep 21, 2011, 9:54 PM EDT

Video: Jody Shelley of the Philadelphia Flyers fights Jay Rosehill of the Toronto Maple Leafs in preseason action at the Wells Fargo Center. Max Talbot has a quick scrap with Phillippe Dupuis after Dupuis put a big hit on Brayden Schenn.

  3. Ilya Bryzgalov Set to Debut on Philly Ice

    Sep 21, 2011, 5:25 PM EDT

Although last night’s 4-0 win over the Maple Leafs was a satisfying start to the Flyers’ preseason action, and we were all happy to see Bob notch a shutout, the most heralded new Flyer was not on the ice. In tonight’s rematch, we’ll get the opportunity to see Ilya Bryzgalov between the pipes and wearing the Orange & Black for the first time.

    Sep 21, 2011, 11:53 AM EDT

  5. First Look: Flyers and Leafs in Preseason Action Tonight

    Sep 20, 2011, 5:50 PM EDT

It may be nothing more than a glorified scrimmage, but after months with no hockey following an awful exit from the playoffs, Flyers fans finally get to see some real live hockey tonight. At 7 PM on The Comcast Network, a mix-and-match group of Flyers including a Schenn and a Kessel will face a similar group of Leafs, also including a Schenn and a Wheeler (yes, they’re brothers). Tim Panaccio says the Flyers have Sergei Bobrovsky and Michael Leighton on the trip, so no first peek at Ilya Bryzgalov just yet.

  8. JVR Visits PPL Park Again, Gets a Union Custom Jersey

    Sep 16, 2011, 11:07 AM EDT

On Saturday night, I’ll be at PPL Park for the third time in 11 days. Pretty standard stuff for your average Philadelphia Union fan. But the park got a return visit from a more notable fan yesterday, when Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk came to kick it around with Danny Califf for awhile.

The U had a custom 21 van Riemsdyk jersey waiting for him, as well as a sweet pair of Adidas Predators.

  9. Roundup and Video From Fan-Filled Flyers Rookie Game

    Sep 16, 2011, 9:24 AM EDT

Last night, the Flyers and Capitals played their annual rookie game, held this year at the Wells Fargo Center. I wasn’t down there, but it sounds like it was a pretty fun evening for all involved. Feels like forever since I’ve seen my twitter timeline blow up with actual game activity, and it certainly did last night. Here are a few of the storylines that came from the evening, which saw the lil’ Flyers top the mini Caps, 3-2, plus some video highlights.

  13. Brad McCrimmon’s Impact on the NHL Still Felt in Every Chris Pronger Hit

    Sep 9, 2011, 10:34 AM EDT

I’ve read quite a few tributes to McCrimmon since the news of his passing in the plane crash that took the lives of 42 people in Russia, some talking about the “Beast” on the ice, others the mentor on and off it. His story is more impressive with every different person you hear tell it, from Ed Snider to Howe, to Chris Pronger and others who played or coached with him in any of his six NHL cities.

    Aug 31, 2011, 11:17 AM EDT

On Tuesday, the Flyers announced they’d agreed to terms on a contract extension for 22-year-old winger James van Riemsdyk, the second overall pick in the 2007 entry draft. The Flyers have everyone locally and around the league wondering what the 2011-2012 season will bring. There are plenty of new faces, guys most of us have barely seen play in live action, as well as a guy we’ve seen plenty of in Jaromir Jagr. We need look no further than these promo videos for the upcoming season to be reminded that this particular team may take some getting used to, but there’s a certain excitement in the unknown.
