Over the next two days, the Flyers brass will meet with the goalie whose name they hope to have signed onto a contract in the coming weeks and etched into a certain piece of hardware this time next year.

The Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup last night in convincing fashion over the Vancouver Canucks. That Tim Thomas guy proved to be pretty damn good, eh? As a result of the loss, the city of Vancouver turned into an ugly scene or flipped cars, random fires, and generally stupid behavior. More than a couple…

Doing my morning rounds, I saw a handful of interesting articles on the Flyers’ current plight in trying to sign free agent goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and thought, I’ll put together a bit of a Bryzgalov reader. Then I stopped by Puck Daddy and saw that our old friend Wyshynski had done exactly that. Rather than…

Flyer fans are no strangers to seeing Donald Brashear throw fists and kick some ass, only before now, we’ve only seen him do it on skates.

Mark Recchi already owns several records in his career, including the most points in a single season by a Philadelphia Flyer (123 in ’92-’93). Most of his marks are in large part due to his ability to keep playing a very physical sport long after the game leaves many younger men gasping for air. Last night, Recchi added another record to his Wikipedia page, becoming the oldest player to score a goal in a Stanley Cup Final.

Considering the disappointing way in which this season ended it’s hard to believe it’s only been a year since the Flyers faced the Blackhawks in Game Four of the Stanley Cup Finals. Yeah, I could use some Flyers playoff hockey in my life right about now.

Kerry Fraser was a referee in the NHL for 37 years and is now an analyst for TSN. In a recent question and answer post on his blog, Fraser discusses the art of the dive in the NHL and how the league goes about trying to look out for repeat offenders. All interesting stuff. But…

In keeping with some of the other changes happening within the National Hockey League, commissioner Gary Bettman announced this evening that future-Hall-of-Famer and current VP of Hockey and Business Development Brendan Shanahan will be the leader of the NHL’s new Department of Player Safety. In addition to examining the legality of head shots and the…

After 11 NHL seasons, the fruits of which were a single Stanley Cup playoff appearance, Atlanta’s professional hockey club will mercifully pack up their operation and move someplace north where people actually care. Because it’s not polite to let a franchise die with a whimper, particularly one the Flyers have played four times every season since they entered the league in 1999, we thought a brief stroll down memory lane might be in order.
Spoiler alert: times were good.

My eyes lit up when Puck Daddy revealed that the next edition of EA Sports’ NHL franchise would include some pretty cool new features, including the Winter Classic. With the news breaking earlier this month that the Flyers will host the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park, I hoped CBP would get the digital…

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger spoke to the media in a conference call yesterday, touching on just about everything from his worst-ever season in terms of injuries, his health prognosis for the future, the Flyers’ goalie situation, Mike Richards’ role as captain, and the media. Ya know, the usual fare these days. Although nothing earth-shattering, Pronger…

A lot of ink and pixels have been spent exploring Mike Richards’ role with the Flyers, both on and off the ice, since the team departed the playoffs early. For an unabashed Richards fan but also someone who understands he’s not perfect, the coverage can become a bit much. But the Courier-Post’s Chuck Gormley has…

Earlier this week, the first goaltender to wash ashore in the Flyers’ 2011 Goalie Watch was that of Niko Hovinen, a name likely unknown to hockey fans in the Delaware Valley. In a sign of the media times we live in, Hovinen’s signing to an entry-level contract was picked up by most if not all…

Alright Bernard Hopkins. You know how to get people saying your name and posting it to their blogs when they otherwise wouldn’t be paying your upcoming fight much attention. First the awful comments about Donovan McNabb (again), and now something we’d otherwise be pretty interested to hear: Hopkins says he’ll wear a Flyers Bobby Clarke…
