Penn State has been through one of the worst weeks a university could imagine for the most part, but on Saturday there will be a four-hour window to attempt to escape from the off-field scandal that has taken the nation by storm.

Some weren’t sure there’d be a football game between Penn State and Nebraska today. Would they cancel out of shame, respect, fear? The answer is no, that the game will go on, unless something shocking happens between now and kickoff. One person has already tried to derail the game with a bomb threat, just part of the circus going on in Happy Valley today.

A grassroots Penn State alumni group (one not affiliated with the University or the Alumni Association) decided they’re tired of seeing the focus on the football team and coaches. The real issue so many people seemed to have missed or quickly moved on from is the victims and the horrible crimes committed against them.
Working with RAINN, a charity aimed at helping victims of sexual abuse, the goal is to raise $500,000, which amounts to about $1 for every Penn State alumnus.

Joe Paterno has coached his last game at Penn State.
The Board of Trustees met Wednesday night and came to the decision that it was in the universities best interest if Paterno and Penn State President Graham Spanier were to immediately leave their respective positions. ABC’s Jim Gardner broke the news on twitter tonight that Paterno would not coach another game, and that Spanier had resigned.
Gardner reports that assistant coach Tom Bradley will be interim coach.

There is plenty of blame to go around at Penn State for what has unfolded in the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse case. Many have pointed a finger at Joe Paterno over the past 48 hours for his role in all of this. But why? Because he didn’t do enough?

Sexual Abuse Charges Filed Against Jerry Sandusky; Penn State Officials Charged With Perjury and Failure to Report
Nov 5, 2011, 12:38 PM EST
Disturbing news out of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office today, where charges of child sexual abuse have been filed against former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Charges of perjury and failure to report have been entered against Timothy Curley, Penn State’s Athletic Director, and Gary Schultz, Senior VP of Finance and Business, a position that oversees the Penn State police department. Head coach Joe Paterno is also said to have testified to a grand jury, although he has not been charged with wrongdoing.
Sandusky is the founder of a program called The Second Mile, which operates programs for young people, according to a press release given by the Attorney General’s office. A grand jury investigation has identified eight boys as being targets of sexual activity by Sandusky between 1994 and 2009; all of the encounters began with Second Mile activities.

Yahoo!’s Tim Brando has an interview up with Temple coach Fran Dunphy. Dunph has been making the media rounds recently in an effort to get the word out about his team and their tip-off against UPENN on Nov. 14. As Brando and Dunphy both remarked, it’s great just to be talking basketball in light of fatiguing mess that has become college football.

At 5-3 overall and 3-2 within the conference, Temple holds a half-game lead in the MAC East over none other than (the) Ohio University, the team that has twice cost TU a chance at the MAC Champiosnhip. Kick off between the Owls and Bobcats is scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday evening (ESPN / 1210 AM).

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. If that’s the case, Penn State should be well situated for revenge against Illinois this afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 30’s today and up to six inches of snow could fall while Penn State hosts Illinois in Beaver Stadium at 3:30 p.m. It could have the makings for a classic snow game in Happy Valley.
Oct 24, 2011, 12:58 PM EST
Following Temple’s 13-10 loss to Bowling Green over the weekend, we questioned whether the Owls’ unbalanced offense—demonstrated by their refusal to throw the ball—was generated by a lack of faith in that passing game or, instead, an err in play-calling. During his Monday morning MAC coaches teleconference, Addazio spoke out on both the loss and the questions surrounding the team’s passing game.
