Regardless of how you feel about the Joe Paterno statue being removed from its former place outside of Beaver Stadium, I think we can all agree the empty space that was left in its wake — specifically that eery outline of the football players on the wall — felt strange.

The NCAA announced the punishment for Penn State University and its football program on Monday for the role it played in allowing the monster Jerry Sandusky to commit atrocious crimes against children for years. The fine was an eye-opening $60 million with no bowl eligibility for four seasons. There will also be a significant reduction in scholarships.

In the wake of Penn State’s swift Sunday morning removal of the Joe Paterno statue outside that has stood outside Beaver Stadium for the past decade, CBS is reporting that the NCAA will announce “unprecedented sanctions” for the school and its football program on Monday.

A decision has been made on hotly debated question as to whether the statue of Joe Paterno that stands outside of Beaver Stadium will be removed. This morning, Penn State President Rodney Erickson announced that the statue is coming down. Link to video feed.

Artist Michael Pilato painted over a halo above Joe Paterno’s head on a mural at State College over the weekend after details of Paterno’s inaction with Jerry Sandusky became evident in the Freeh Report. The halo was originally added above JoePa’s head after his death in January.
