In order for the Phillies to clinch the NL East crown on Friday, they need a win tonight against the Marlins, a win tomorrow against the Cardinals, and a Braves loss tomorrow night against the Mets in a game that starts at 7:35.

Pete Orr isn’t exactly of the same pedigree as Chase Utley, but damn if he didn’t make two fantastic defensive plays in the first game against the Marlins on Thursday.

Sure, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee may act like Superheros. But just because Long Underwear Man puts on a Phillies hat doesn’t mean he’ll gain super powers.

Playoffs! Sometimes all you need is Roy Halladay and a couple of hits to put an end to the losing ways. Doc was sharp against the Astros, finishing the day after throwing all 9.0 innings and allowing 6 hits while striking out 7 and walking only 1. The win clinches the Phillies their 5th-straight spot in the postseason and earned Roy his 18th win of the season.

After taking the brooms to the Atlanta Braves last week, the Philadelphia Phillies are the last team in Major League Baseball that have yet to fall victim to a series sweep in the 2011 season. With a starting rotation featuring one “stopper” after another, its been thought that his team might never get swept. We’ll find out today.

The Phillies will kick off the 2012 season on Thursday, April 5th on the road in Pittsburgh, a destination close enough that could allow for a nice Philly fan presence. The Fightins will make their 2012 Citizens Bank Park debut against the renamed Miami Marlins on Monday April 9 in a 1:05 game.

A night after former Phillie Brett Myers topped former Astro Roy Oswalt, former Phillie JA Happ beat Cole Hamels. After a loss to close out the series in Milwaukee, tonight’s 5-2 defeat at the hands of Wade’s Boys marks the first time the Phillies have lost three straight since early June.

It’s been pretty safe to assume the Phillies were going to make the postseason for a couple of weeks now, but a win tonight (or a loss by St. Louis) will make it official. Cole Hamels (14-7, 2.60) takes the hill for the Phillies and hopes to earn his 15th win of the season which would match a career high. He was 15-5 in 2007.

Monday’s game against Brett Myers and the Houston Astros was pretty much as ugly as it gets.

This is apparently Pete Orr’s first sausage rodeo…Personally, I think he had money on one of them and was trying to fix the outcome here. Thanks to @waverider15 for the video.

The Brewers have been a scary team when playing at home in Wisconsin this season. Coming into tonight’s game they were a very impressive 50-19 at Miller Park. But none of those games were played against the Phillies and their reserves!
Sep 8, 2011, 5:42 PM EDT
This was supposed to be the big test for the Phillies during a month in which they’re kind of just going through the motions waiting for October to come. But as the Phillies kick off their four-game series at Miller Park in Milwaukee where the Brewers have a dominant record, the Fightins’ will be without three of their studs.

I’d say it was a pretty successful three-game set at the Bank this week, a little rain aside. We thought we’d cap it off with this fantastic photo from the Level Flickr group that we had been saving for a rainy day.

Not only did the Phils get to one of the Braves formidable young bullpen arms in the eighth to tie the game up, but they finished in fantastic fashion with a Ross Gload pinch-hit walkoff winner in the ninth to put an exclamation point on who the NL East belongs to this season.

A rare instance in this evening’s game when the Phillies starter actually has a higher ERA than the opposing team’s starter. Roy Oswalt (7-8, 3.80) takes on right-hander Brandon Beach (7-2, 3.37) in the third and final game of the series.
