Earlier in the week we saw a photo over at Zoo with Roy of an absolutely amazing sandcastle modeled after South Philly’s own Citizens Bank Park. We wondered what kind of hardcore Philadelphia sports fan would make such a masterpiece so we emailed the creator, Alex Nakahara, to find out more about his castle on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.

The Phillies will attempt to complete a four-game sweep of the Reds today in an early 12:35 start time in Cincinnati. They’ll turn to rookie right-hander Vance Worley who the team has fared quite well with over the past three months.

Cliff Lee capped off another month in which he put up ridiculous numbers, finishing the month of August with a 5-0 record and a 0.45 ERA. Put those numbers alongside his dazzling June and Clifton Phifer joins only two other pitchers in the history of the game to have two months in one season with a 5-0 record an an ERA under 1.00. Those guys? You may have heard of them. Walter Johnson and Bob Gibson.

Cliff Lee hit a grounder and didn’t feel the need to run to first base on the play. Whatever. He just waved it off.
Aug 31, 2011, 4:54 PM EDT
Cliff Lee has been a dominant pitcher for the Phillies this season. He’s also been used as a pinch runner and has swung a pretty damn good bat. These are seemingly all reasons why he’s been so beloved by fans in Philadelphia. As Matt Gelb of the Inqurer points out, Cliff may have met his…

Halladay shines and Howard bashes as the Phillies cruised to a 9-0 victory on Tuesday night.

Ibanez is back tonight and will face Reds’ starter Bronson Arroyo who Raul has hit .429 against in (only) seven career at-bats. As we mentioned earlier, Arroyo has struggled mightily against the Phils over his last four starts. Toss in new Phillie Hunter Pence who has seen Arroyo a ton (11-32) and it looks like a good matchup for the Phils.
Aug 30, 2011, 11:44 AM EDT
Roy Halladay’s last four starts vs. the Reds: 1.91 ERA, one postseason no-hitter; Bronson Arroyo’s last four starts vs. the Phillies: 10.0 ERA, nine home runs in 18.0 IP.

The extended time off appeared to affect the Phillies bats a bit more than it did Cole Hamels left arm. At least until the eighth inning when Shane Victorino unloaded one of his sweet swings that sent a no-doubter into the seats in right to put the Phillies up 3-1. Stutes would falter a bit in the bottom half of the inning, but the Fightins held on for 3-2 win.

Not only will the Phillies be getting back to action for the first time since their loss to the Marlins on Friday night, Cole Hamels (13-7, 2.62) will be starting for the first time in 17 days. Will Hamels return to form after an extended rest or will the fatigue he mentioned after that poor showing against the Nationals on Auguest 12th linger?

According to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, Jamie Moyer will use the Phillies facilities down in Clearwater, Florida as he attempts to rehab from Tommy John surgery which he had in December.

When Hunter Pence came over from the Houston Astros, he brought along some sweet high pants and stirrups to go with his hustle and awkward style of play.

With the Phillies getting to Cincy a couple of days early, a number of them used the extra free time to prep for and draft their fantasy football teams.

The Philadelphia Phillies join roughly ten other MLB teams who’ve produced such a video aimed at all youngsters, but also specifically those in the LGBT community. It features Chase Utley, Roy Halladay, Hunter Pence, John Mayberry, and Mike Stutes.

With all of these postponed and rescheduled games, pretty much the biggest question surrounding the Phillies was how would they manage their starting rotation going forward. We now have an answer. Rich Dubee told reporters this afternoon that Cole Hamels will start Monday…

With now zero Philadelphia sports on the agenda for this weekend, we’ll be posting some random goods in the hope of entertaining you before the power goes out and the world ends. Stay tuned and we’ll try to have some fun.

The Phils lost last night, and while that’s not the end of the world (Hurricane Irene is!), today’s a good day to look back on August 26, 2007, when a fella by the name of Kevin Kernan declared the NL East race over. (Yes, I meant to post it yesterday as an anniversary of sorts, but didn’t get to it.) The New York Post writer took one look at a mere 6.5-game New York Mets lead over the Phillies and was all PSSSSH, they got this.

It’s quite easy to hate on other teams, other cities, and their fans, but one guy who is almost universally cherished by baseball fans across the nation is Vin Scully. He announced on Friday night that he’s coming back to announce Dodgers games for an absolutely remarkable 63rd season. Big ups to Vin Scully. You’re…

Plenty of interesting story lines developing this weekend in Philadelphia, with perhaps one of the worst hurricanes we’ll ever see likely to hit the East Coast in the next 24 hours, but not too many of them have to do with the action on the field.
Aug 26, 2011, 3:59 PM EDT
For those keeping track at home (or who happen to have tickets to games this weekend at CBP), Sunday’s game has been moved to Saturday at 1:05 and Saturday night’s scheduled 7:05 game will now be moved to September 15th. The Phillies now have ZERO off days in the entire month of September. You may…

The hurricane that is swirling out over the Atlantic Ocean could really put a damper on sporting events this weekend up and down the entire East Coast. The Philadelphia Union’s game scheduled for Sunday against the New England Revolution has already been pushed back to September 7th, and the Phillies have moved their Sunday game to a Saturday 1:05 start.

If you’re looking for more on Shane Victorino’s Celebrity Fashion Show that took place last night in Philadelphia, HughE Dillon has a bunch of photos over at Philly Mag and a couple of videos at PhillyChitChat.com, including the below video of Cole Hamels dancing and Mike Stutes getting his Michael Jackson leg kick on.

This photo, via the Phillies official Twitter feed, features 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels and former NL MVP Ryan Howard strutting their stuff down the runway at Shane Victorino’s Second Annual Celebrity Fashion Show. You know, for charity!

NBC 10′s John Clark is tweeting that the Phillies will forgo their Sunday afternoon match up with the Marlins and, instead, attempt a day-night double header on Saturday in the hopes of avoiding the wrath of Hurricane Irene.
