  1. Kyle Kendrick and the Phils Attempt to Sweep the Mets in Business Person’s Special

    Aug 24, 2011, 11:41 AM EDT

The Phils will try to finish off the sweep of the Mets this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park as Kyle Kendrick (7-5, 3.24) will take on right-hander Mike Pelfrey (6-10, 4.61). The Phils will get to enjoy an off-day on Thursday so finishing off the Mets with a win today would make their likely lunches in Rittenhouse tomorrow that much more enjoyable.

  12. Phillies May Have Found Next Bullpen Gem in Schwimer

    Aug 22, 2011, 12:19 PM EDT

Michael Schwimer’s MLB debut got off to pretty much as bad a start as possible, although I suppose he could have given up the home run to Danny Espinosa on his first pitch instead of the second. While the HR allowed certainly contributed in the loss, the good news is the youngster bounced back and pitched extremely well to everyone except that pesky Espinosa.

  13. Phils Lose Game, Series, on Brad Lidge Walkoff Hit By Pitch

    Aug 21, 2011, 6:49 PM EDT

Watching all nine innings of the Phillies’ game against the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon, it kind of felt like watching a back-to-back doubleheader. Problem is, the Phillies only won the first one.

Roy Halladay weathered a two-run first inning and was picked up by his offense, who answered with two of their own in the top of the next frame. Carlos Ruiz homered with Raul Ibanez on base, and Chase Utley did as well in the third inning. Doc didn’t allow a run through five, and the game became official just before it was halted for a rain delay. Halladay’s outing was over, but another game loomed with a start time of 4:30. It didn’t end as well as the first, particularly for Brad Lidge.

  15. Doc vs Wang (and Rain?) in CBP South Series Finale

    Aug 21, 2011, 1:08 PM EDT

In addition to Roy Oswalt’s continued return to form, the storyline coming out of last night’s 5-0 Phillies win was the overwhelming presence of Phillies fans in Nationals Park. We’ve seen it before, but, combined with Ian Desmond bobblehead night, the stadium saw its largest ever crowd. Fightins fans who made a weekend of it get to wake up this morning knowing their Sunday starter is Roy Halladay.

Doc is coming off a tough loss after he dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks for eight innings, only to surrender the tying and game-winning runs in the ninth. His shot at redemption and the Phils effort toward their seventh straight series win come against Chien-Ming Wang, the Taiwanese starter who was credited with back-to-back 19-win seasons with the Yankees before injuries knocked him from the rotation.

    Aug 20, 2011, 6:11 PM EDT

Roy Oswalt (5-7, 3.84) will finally take the hill this evening after being removed from the lineup last night before ever taking the mound after the lengthy rain delay. Charlie says there’s no concern with Oswalt tonight after he threw about 40 warm up pitches or so last night.

  25. Eli Whiteside Takes a Face Plant

    Aug 19, 2011, 11:20 AM EDT

With his hippity-hop-boxing antics in the Shane Victorino altercation, Giants catcher Eli Whiteside cemented his place on the long list of opposing players that the Phillies fanbase can’t stand. So it’s with minimal cringe that we bring you this video from the other night of Whiteside taking one of the more nasty faceplant dives into second base we’ve seen in a while.
