Ahh, to be a Phillies rookie reliever and to carry a pink backpack out to the pen.

Surely you’ve heard the awful tale of San Francisco Giants’ fan Bryan Stow being beaten at a baseball game by some unruly Dodgers fans. Well a group of Phillies fans in L.A. stepped up to raise funds for Stow in the name of comedy. Read the full story here. Good on ya, Phils fans.

Vance Worley (8-1, 2.35) and the Phillies look to cap off their grueling 20 games in 20 days this afternoon in sweeping fashion. A win in Los Angeles today would finish off that 20-day span with an 16-4 record, and an absolutely impressive 9-1 on the 10-game road trip. That would be their first-ever 9-1 record on a 10-game road trip in franchise history.

Not only did Cliff Lee bash what proved to be the game-winning home run last night at Dodger Stadium, but Phils beat writer Jim Salisbury tells of how Clifton kind of called his shot. (Sorta)

Shortly after midnight on the East Coast, Cliff Lee rewarded Phillies fans who stayed up late to watch him deal against the Dodgers. But it wasn’t with his arm. Lee had been showcasing his dazzling stuff on the mound all night, shutting out the Dodgers through six innings at that point. It was one beautiful swing of the bat that landed a Ted Lilly offering into the right field seats that really sent the Cliff Lee love fest through the roof.

If the Phillies can find a way to beat the Dodgers this evening, they’d move to 36 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 1977 season when they finished 101-61.

Ever wondered what the Phillies ate before and after games at Citizens Bank Park?

Roy Halladay didn’t have his best stuff and was pulled after 6 1/3 on Monday night. The pen didn’t make it easy, with a number of tense moments.

The news coming out of the Placido Polanco doctor’s visit could’ve been a lot worse, but no one in Philadelphia will be too thrilled with the words “sports hernia” being applied to another local athlete. Jim Salisbury says that for the time being, Polly won’t head to the DL, and he’ll get an anti-inflammatory injection on Tuesday, then be re-evaluated on Friday to see if he can play through it. If not, surgical repair could sideline him up to a month.
Michael Martinez started at third on Monday night, and he’ll man the hot corner along with Wilson Valdez while Polanco is out, unless Ruben goes 3B hunting…

ESPN Page2′s DJ Gallo makes an argument for Philly over Boston as the “sports capital of the world.” Another guy argues that Beantown, with their plethora of championships over the last 10 years takes the crown, but that’s all in the past.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney put on 50 lbs for the most recent season and he did it with the help of Chase Utley.

That rapping Giants fan is back and worse than ever.

The Hunter Pence streaks are over. Since the Phillies brought up their new right fielder from AAAA Houston, he’s hit in every game, and they’ve won ‘em all. Ten straight proved too much though, as the Giants blocked a sweep with a 3-1 win on Sunday afternoon.

Chipper Jones may be despised among Phillies fans, but it’s hard not to recognize the guy as one of the game’s greats. And he has some high praise for these Phils.
Aug 7, 2011, 2:28 PM EDT
The Fightin’ Phils have won nine straight games and currently hold the best record in all of baseball. Today, those same Phillies will add Roy Oswalt into the mix. Not too shabby of a post-deadline addition, eh? Lil Roy is ready to get out of the dugout and onto the field.

Cole Hamels and the Phillies dropped a deuce on the Giants on Saturday in San Fran.

Interesting idea from Fox’s Eric Karros and their graphics team on what Cole Hamels needs to do in order to beat the San Francisco Giants…

Saw this great pic by Kelley L. Cox of US Presswire and just had to share. The guys look pretty badass after their scrap with what I guess we can consider their biggest rival at the moment.

Charlie Manuel said last week that he didn’t think the Giants were in the Phillies’ heads at all. Naturally, the San Francisco Chronicle wrote today that they are.
