After delays, rain, more rain, and finally a great out from Roy Halladay, Michael Stutes, Antonio Bastardo, and Juan Perez (!?!)… Raul Ibanez took one big swing in the bottom of the 10th inning last night.

We mentioned the cool new 3D art installation at Citizens Bank Park yesterday, but today, a couple of the voices of the Phillies got to check it out up close and personal.

Dom Brown continued his string of nice games at the plate by ripping was appeared to be a triple in the sixth. But not so fast! After Dom was standing on third for a few moments, someone on the Marlins thought it would be a good idea to appeal to second base umpire Kerwin Danley. They must have seen Brown’s stutter-step before touching the base, because Danley called Brown out. A triple turned into a single and Brown was called out at second. [watch the play here]

Rich Dubee has said he doesn’t like the idea of Roy Halladay starting the All-Star game for the NL… but isn’t home field advantage in the World Series more important for the Phillies?

While you may have stepped away from the Internet, the weekend was full of sports news. From fans in Toronto running on the field to the Flyers free agency frenzy, here’s a recap of what you may have missed.

Philadelphia Phillies face the Florida Marlins in the opener of a three game set. Vance Worley faces Ricky Nolasco. Shane Victorino is out with an injury (swollen thumb).

Cliff Lee takes his 32 inning scoreless streak into Toronto as the Phillies look to sweep the Blue Jays
Jul 2, 2011, 7:20 PM EST
Roy Halladay returned to Toronto to face the Blue Jays on Saturday and received a well-deserved, long standing ovation before making his first pitches of the game. Doc gave his former fans a show, thrown yet another complete game win, as the Phillies took game 2 of the series by a 5-3 count.
The Phillies’ bats gave Halladay some decent support, particularly later in the game. The kind Canadian crowd began to sour after the Chase Utley bopped a two-run homer to get the Phils a 4-3 lead in the seventh. By the time the game was over, Blue Jays reliever Jon Rauch had been ejected, forcefully and with some amount of disrobing (video below, while it lasts), as had manager John Farrell. Long live umpire Alfonso Marquez. One Jays fan ran onto the field, and quite a few threw trash on it.

Athletes usually down play their return to the city they spent much of their career bleeding for, and Roy Halladay is no different in his highly-anticipated return to Toronto this afternoon. “I feel like it’s any other start,” Halladay said. “It’s been long enough for me where that’s not really something that’s in the forefront. Obviously it’s the first time back, but I don’t really anticipate anything different than any other road start.”

Nothing like kicking off your July 4th weekend with a little baseball… in Canada. The Phils are up in the Great White North for a three game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. The big story of the weekend will be Roy Halladay’s start on Saturday, but they’ve got a game today before that highly-anticipated homecoming takes place. Kyle Kendrick (4-4, 3.23) will make a spot start and have the unenviable task of dealing with Jose Bautista. He’ll take on Ricky Romero (7-7, 2.74) who has held current Phillies to a .206 BA and a paltry .235 slugging percentage.

One of the Phillies aces took a liner to the glove hand in the fourth inning and did not return for the fifth after finishing out the frame. While it’s unfortunate that Hamels had to leave the game and that the Phils subsequently lost to the Red Sox in the final game of the three game set, the good news is that Hamels’ X-rays were negative.

A fantastic pitching matchup in Philadelphia this afternoon as the Phillies Cole Hamels takes on the Red Sox Jon Lester. Boston will look to avoid the sweep at the hands of the first place Phils.
