  3. Just Like the 2010 NLCS, Only With Zero Excitement

    Jul 27, 2011, 10:53 PM EDT

In Game 3 of the 2010 NLCS, Matt Cain outdueled Cole Hamels for a 3-0 win on a night where there was scant offense from the Phillies and not a tremendous amount more from the Giants. Wednesday’s 2-1 Phils loss may have looked familiar, with Cain and the Giants topping Hamels and the home side, 2-1, and the teams combining for 10 hits.

The buzz before the Phillies game this evening at Citizens Bank Park is the looming trade that will land the San Francisco Giants switch-hitting Carlos Beltran, one of the prized bats of the 2011 deadline season.

  6. Beltran Appears Unlikely in Philly; What’s Pence Worth to You?

    Jul 27, 2011, 2:11 PM EDT

In my opinion, either Hunter Pence or Carlos Beltran would be a great addition to the Phillies roster as they push for a World Series championship. Charlie Manuel has said over and over he’d want somebody who is a clear upgrade. Beltran rumors today point toward him landing with the Giants, which leaves Pence as…

  9. Ryan Howard’s Venice-style Canal Forces Florida Community to Shift

    Jul 26, 2011, 7:58 PM EDT

The “Casa Del Howard” will surely be an enjoyable spot to head home to after a tough day of spring ball. Local newspaper the Bellaire Bee says the home will be a “$23 million, 17,500-square-foot home on a gulf-front lot covering over an acre.”

  13. Brad Lidge Lives, Pitches Scoreless 1-2-3 Seventh Inning

    Jul 25, 2011, 3:56 PM EDT

Brad Lidge probably wasn’t exactly what Manuel had in mind when voicing his desires, but the former Lights Out closer could help in a big way down the stretch. And he showed a nice glimpse of how good he can be in his first appearance of the season for the Phillies on Monday afternoon against the Padres.

The temperature was hot once again, but the Phils’ bats were hotter. (Well… maybe not.) 19. Kendrick vs. Latos: Hope You’re in the Hall of Fame Club edition

    Jul 23, 2011, 2:23 PM EDT

As someone currently hydrating for a long hot summer night at the Linc, I feel for the folks headed down to Citizens Bank Park for game two of the Phillies-Padres series. It’s gonna be a hot’n, with a game time temperature of about 100º and a heat index of like a million.

Those braving the elements will see Kyle Kendrick facing righty Mat Latos and looking for his second straight win as a starter. He beat the Mets last week with a nice one-run performance over seven innings.

  20. Philadelphia a Fortunate Stop on Pat Gillick’s Career Path

    Jul 23, 2011, 12:21 PM EDT

I didn’t know the greatness of the Phillies team that won the franchise’s first-ever World Series the week of my first birthday. Before 2008, the closest I saw the Fightins come to being the best in the bigs was in 1993, and that success left the team about as soon as Joe Carter’s home run left the park.

That 1993 Blue Jays team was put together by Pat Gillick, and as painful as it can still be for those of us who witnessed it, the antidote is a few lines further down. By which I course mean, Gillick was also the man perhaps most responsible for the greatest ride of our baseball lives, the 2008 Phillies Championship season.
