  1. Bienvenue Toronto: Phils Kick Off Series with Friday Afternoon Affair

    Jun 30, 2011, 5:38 PM EDT

Nothing like kicking off your July 4th weekend with a little baseball… in Canada. The Phils are up in the Great White North for a three game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. The big story of the weekend will be Roy Halladay’s start on Saturday, but they’ve got a game today before that highly-anticipated homecoming takes place. Kyle Kendrick (4-4, 3.23) will make a spot start and have the unenviable task of dealing with Jose Bautista. He’ll take on Ricky Romero (7-7, 2.74) who has held current Phillies to a .206 BA and a paltry .235 slugging percentage.

  2. Cole Hamels Leaves Game with Bruised Hand, Phils Can’t Complete Sweep of Sox

    Jun 30, 2011, 4:30 PM EDT

One of the Phillies aces took a liner to the glove hand in the fourth inning and did not return for the fifth after finishing out the frame. While it’s unfortunate that Hamels had to leave the game and that the Phils subsequently lost to the Red Sox in the final game of the three game set, the good news is that Hamels’ X-rays were negative.

  4. For the Sweep: Cole Hamels vs. Jon Lester

    Jun 30, 2011, 11:44 AM EDT

A fantastic pitching matchup in Philadelphia this afternoon as the Phillies Cole Hamels takes on the Red Sox Jon Lester. Boston will look to avoid the sweep at the hands of the first place Phils.

  5. Vance Worley Wanted Dustin Pedroia’s Autograph, Was Reportedly Denied

    Jun 30, 2011, 11:07 AM EDT

Phillies rookie Vance Worley held his own against the potent Red Sox lineup on Wednesday night. He also asked a clubbie to get him Dustin Pedroia’s autograph but was denied.

  6. Bernard Hopkins Visits First Place Phillies, Whips Them Into Shape

    Jun 29, 2011, 7:51 PM EDT

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired tired tired of watching the Phillies lollygag their way through the first half of the season. ONLY 20 GAMES OVER .500?? GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND FIGHT, FIGHTINS.

Fortunately, motivational speaker and champion pugilist Bernard Hopkins was brought in to give them the what-for before Wednesday night’s game against the Red Sox.

  7. Red Sox-Phillies Round Two: Worley vs. Lackey

    Jun 29, 2011, 5:14 PM EDT

Vance Worley will try to follow up Cliff Lee’s gem last night with a strong performance of his on this evening as the Phillies take on John Lackey and the Boston Red Sox.

  8. Charles Barkley Wants Ryan Howard Protected

Charles Barkley was up in Toronto to participate in Joe Carter’s golf outing and talked about the Phillies.

  9. Adrian Gonzalez in Right, Big Papi at First for BoSox

    Jun 29, 2011, 3:39 PM EDT

After managing only two hits against the Phillies on Tuesday night, the Red Sox will get some added pop to their lineup this evening. Terry Francona has opted to give slugger Adrian Gonzalez the very rare start in right field in order to make room for David Ortiz at first base. Tito talked to Boston radio this morning about the decision,

  10. Roy Halladay Talks Chooch Doll with MLBN

    Jun 29, 2011, 1:13 PM EDT

One of the added benefits of the added coverage is getting a guy like Roy Halladay to open up a bit to the goofballs on MLB Network. Doc talked with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar on “Intentional Talk” prior to Tuesday night’s game and one of the topics covered was the inflatable Carlos Ruiz doll used in his video game commercial for MLB 2K11

  12. Cliff Lee Feels More Like A Baseball Player in the National League

    Jun 28, 2011, 10:55 PM EDT

Cliff Lee’s June has been absolutely filthy on the mound. He finished the month with a 5-0 record, allowing only one earned run in 42 innings of work (0.21 ERA), but he’s also contributed a great deal during his plate appearances.

He helped his own cause in the Phillies 5-0 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday night by hitting the first sac-fly of his career in the fifth inning, good for his fifth RBI on the season.

  13. Cliff Lee Dominates Red Sox for Third Straight Complete Game Shutout

    Jun 28, 2011, 9:47 PM EDT

Cliff Lee needed only five pitches to retire the Red Sox in order in the first inning on Tuesday night. The rest of the evening wasn’t quite as easy for the Phillies lefty — but not by much.

Cliff’s final line: 9 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts. And the win.

When names like Robin Roberts and Grover Cleveland Alexander get thrown around, you know a Phillies starter is doing something special.

    Jun 28, 2011, 4:43 PM EDT

With the Boston Red Sox in town, the highly-anticipated World Series preview with the Philadelphia Phillies will kick off this evening at CBP. Charlie Manuel talked prior to the game about using Antonio Bastardo and Mike Stutes as his new makeshift closers.

  22. Did You Just Call Me Cole Train? Hamels Looks to Put A’s on Their B’s

    Jun 25, 2011, 5:57 PM EDT

While last night wasn’t necessarily the pitchers’ duel you usually get in a walkoff 1-0 game, the lack of offense was nonetheless its hallmark. Despite having some command issues, Vance Worley allowed just one hit, and the bullpen conceded the same amount in the final three innings. Two-hit in the opener, the A’s now face Cole Hamels, the NL’s WHIP leader, who is trying to become the first NL pitcher to 10 wins.

  23. Charlie Manuel, Vance Worley Star in Phillies Postgame Comedy Hour

    Jun 25, 2011, 9:35 AM EDT

For most of the night, the only thing really laughable in the Philadelphia Phillies-Oakland A’s series opener was the inability by either team to get a hit. Credit both sides’ defenses with a lot of that, because despite carrying dual no-hitters into the sixth inning, the starting pitching wasn’t exactly crisp all night. Vance Worley allowed just one hit in six innings, but part of his no-hit effectiveness included walking four batters. A’s starter Guillermo Moscoso let up two hits over seven, walking three of his own.

It wasn’t a terrible night for Worley, who also struck out four. But he wasn’t thrilled with his outing, taking a moment in the post-game press appearance to have some fun at his own expense.

  24. Phillies Welcome A’s Home to Philly, Announce Bevy of Roster Moves
