Jrue’s play down the wire also created one of the more humorous moments of the evening, when he found himself on the free throw line with just seconds to play. The Sixers point total stood at 99 and Jrue had one shot left to push the total into triple digits which would give every fan in attendance a free Big Mac.

There’s a professional basketball exhibition in South Philadelphia this evening between your 76ers and the Washington Wizards. It’s, remarkably, the final tune up in the incredibly brief preseason before the shortened 2011-12 season kicks off next week.

Andre Iguodala is a fantastic dunker. His throwdowns are often the stuff that can make watching an otherwise mediocre Sixers’ game worthwhile for the casual hoops fan. But never once did I think to myself, “Man, it would be really awesome to watch Andre Iguodala and other superior dunkers such as Blake Griffin throw down some nasty dunks while wearing really fancy menswear.” Alas, GQ allows us to do that in the below video.

Sure, it was against the Washington Wizards, but damn if the Sixers didn’t look real sharp in their first real action as a team of the season. Doug Collins’ squad clearly benefited from having played an entire season together in the past while the Wiz… well, the best thing about the Wizards on Friday night was their fresh new uniforms. One of the more noticeable changes (for those who spend as much time on the Internet as we do) that has come about as part of the new Sixers regime is the transition of former PA announcer Matt Cord over to being the video voice on Sixers.com.

Proud.” One focuses on the team’s storied history — did you know they have the THIRD most wins in NBA history?!. Another focuses on Doug Collins and the third focuses on the Sixers’ “Youth.” But where’s Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand?

It’s not often the Sixers make headlines over at Mashable, but over the weekend, an interesting story on their interaction with a pair of fans was posted. If you’re on Twitter, you’ve probably seen the two accounts that popped up just after the team announced its mascot ballot, one for each of Phil E. Moose and B. Franklin Dogg. Well, they weren’t opened by the Sixers, and the team wanted the handles, according to Jerry Rizzo and Hunter Coleman, who created them. The deal brokered between the team and the two fans isn’t bad…

As of 6:00 today, it looked like a done deal that Chris Paul was going to be traded to the Lakers. In all likelihood, it was a done deal—New Orleans was gonna send CP3 to the Lakers for forwards Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, then turn around and deal Gasol to the Houston Rockets in exchange for shooting guard Kevin Martin, power forward Luis Scola, backup point Goran Dragic and a 2012 first-round pick belonging to the New York Knicks. Twitter exploded with the news of the trade, leading to the inevitable amount of hand-wrigning about the rich getting richer when we just had a lockout partially caused by the desire for parity between the big and small-market teams.

First they announced they be cutting ticket prices across the board, then they announced they’d be killing off their old mascot only to potentially replace it with a moose (okay, forget that one), then they cut online ticketing fees, and now they’re making all mezzanine seats in the month of January $17.76.
