  4. Union to Sport New Kits in 2012

    Nov 10, 2011, 9:24 PM EDT

We’re still smarting from the Union’s first round playoff loss at the hands of the Houston Dynamo, but a week later, it’s already starting to settle in that 2011 was still a productive step toward true contention in the MLS. The Union have begun looking ahead too, both in regard to the players who will be on the field and the unis they’ll be wearing.

Tonight, Union fans got an email saying that the team will soon be unveiling new primary and secondary kits for the 2012 season. We don’t have any idea what they might look like, but they’re offering up an incentive to get the unveiling to happen sooner rather than later. As of this posting, the Union have 85,291 ‘Likes’ on Facebook. When they hit 92,012 (emphasis on the 2012), they’ll unveil the new gear.

  5. Union v. Dynamo, Leg Two: WWPD?

    Nov 3, 2011, 3:09 PM EDT

The Union head into tonight’s second leg of the MLS Eastern Conference Semifinals (8:30/ESPN2) against the Houston Dynamo down a goal. Outscore the Dyanmo by two goals in regulation and they’ll advance to the Conference Finals. Outscore the Dynamo by one goal in regulation and they’ll force a 30 minute overtime (there is no “golden goal”). If the two teams remain tied on aggregate after the 30 minute overtime then the winner will be determined by penalty kicks.

It was a great feeling leaving PPL Park last night. Even though the Union only tied Toronto FC, 1-1, they won by earning the point they needed to clinch a playoff berth. In their second season, the U have already made it to the MLS’s exclusive postseason. That’s a tremendous source of pride for the team, from ownership to players, staff, and definitely us fans.

    Oct 3, 2011, 3:21 PM EDT

  22. Video Highlights: Union Top DC on Gorgeous Goals

    Oct 1, 2011, 9:48 AM EDT

Thursday night’s match hosting DC United had huge playoff implications for the Philadelphia Union, and they came out of the gate looking like they fully understood that.

Sebastien Le Toux continued his tear through the MLS’s second half, potting two goals in the game’s first 15 minutes. If you were late coming to PPL Park, you probably missed the first one. The U again did their best to catch the opposing backline flatfooted with the blazing fast Le Toux in motion, and it worked to precision on these two goals, which you can see in the first two minutes of the video below. Right about the 2:00 mark, you’ll see Le Toux doing his flashmob dance.

The match would stay level until the 57th minute, when Michael Farfan struck a great ball from distance, burying it in the top left corner. You can see that just after the 6:30 mark.

  25. Union Earn a Road Point in KC: Video Highlights

    Sep 24, 2011, 10:14 AM EDT

Heading into one of their most important matches of the season, Peter Nowak’s Union side was without several key players. No Faryd Mondragon, Freddy Adu, or Sheanon Williams against a very tough and talented Sporting KC side in their new building? Sounds like a recipe for a point-less trip.
