I’d imagine when you’re accustomed to regularly playing weekend games a mid-week match can disrupt your typical routine. Similarly, flying cross country, playing a game three time zones away, flying back across the country, and playing another match less than four days later has to really mess with you.
Those are the circumstances the Union face tonight as they host Sporting Kansas City at PPL Park (7:30PM/The Comcast Network). The U, who lost 1-0 to Vancouver on Saturday night, now must regroup as they look to extend their seven game home unbeaten streak.

Not a great night for the Philadelphia Union in Vancouver, but the lone goal by Whitecaps FC was well worth a watch.

The Philadelphia Phillies take on the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field in game two of their interleague series. The Philadelphia Union face off with the Whitecaps FC in Vancouver.

The Union look to remain unbeaten at home as they face CONCACAF Champions League runner-up Real Salt Lake (4PM/ABC). Peter Nowak’s side returns to PPL Park after picking up four of a possible six points from back-to-back road games.
RSL sits in fourth place in the West with 20 points. Although their technically mid-table in their conference they’ve only played 11 games. By contrast, the Galaxy, who lead the West with 30 points have played five more games than RSL. Similarly, the Union, who are in first place in the East, have only played 12 games.

We were eager to see how the Union would follow-up their best-ever scoring effort on the road in the Colorado altitude, and overall, they didn’t disappoint, earning a 1-all tie against the Rapids. It would have been more encouraging to see a W and possibly another multi-goal game, but the biggest take-home from this one was the Union’s composure in going hard for a goal after conceding the opening tally on a second-half PK.

The Union, fresh off of their six goal explosion last week against Toronto, are in Colorado tonight to face the defending MLS Cup Champion Rapids (9PM/The Comcast Network). Both teams will be without offensive contributors. The Rapids will be without Omar Cummings, who has not played since April due to an ankle injury, was just…

US v. Spain: This time it’s for all the tapas (4:30PM/ESPN). On a serious note, I’d crush some patatas bravas right now. A lot has happened since these two teams last met at the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa. The US stunned Spain 2-0 that day. Spain, the 2008 European Champions, was in the…

Justin Mapp, who struck two goals from distance, was voted the MLS Player of the Week for Match Week 11. Amazingly, it’s been almost six years between Player of the Week awards for Mapp. He last won the honor back in Week 23 of the 2005 season. Full marks to Mapp for his performance on…

Before today, the most goals the Union had scored on the season was two, a feat they’d accomplished only once. In their season-plus of existence, their highest single-game goal total was three. Today, they doubled it, topping home side Toronto FC, 6-2. The Union are now fully atop the table in the Eastern Conference, having…

Barca. ManU. Both teams won their domestic league. Both teams feature a veritable who’s who of footballing talent. Barcelona’s La Masia trained three man symphony of Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta lead the way for the La Liga champions. ManU is led by the ageless Ryan Giggs, the now traditional 10-shirt wearing Wayne Rooney, and El…

The appetizer to your Memorial Day Soccer Saturday kicks off at 12:30 on Comcast SportsNet. It was such an amazing sentence to read that I couldn’t resist lifting it directly from the MLS.com game preview…”Toronto FC remain home to take on the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field”. Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia…

Carlos Ruiz of the Union netted an amazing long goal off a failed free kick attempt, putting a left-footed boot off the crossbar from long distance [video]. The goal immediately got a few “goal of the year” comments and linked just about everywhere. But, as great as it was, I’m not even sure it was the best goal of the MLS weekend.

USMNT head coach Bob Bradley has released his 23-man roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup (June 5-June 25). US Soccer has made winning the Gold Cup a priority, which helps to explain why so many veteran names are included on the roster. The winning team qualifies for the Confederations Cup, which will take place…

The Union found a way to do something they hadn’t all season to date—score a pair of goals. They topped the Chicago Fire by a 2-1 count to stay unbeaten at PPL Park this season. Carlos Ruiz had without a doubt the play of the night, and not only because it broke the 1-all tie…

It was a very rough evening for the Union on Saturday night in Dallas. Peter Nowak’s squad fell victim to the same thing that has been haunting them all season, a lack of offense. While F.C. Dallas kept a clean sheet, the typically stout Union defense was beaten twice. Full highlights:

The Union, who played the Galaxy to a 1-1 draw at home on Wednesday, have a short turnaround and are on the road tonight in Frisco, Texas where they’ll play F.C. Dallas (8:30PM/The Comcast Network). This whole story is hilarious. From the cliche-laden lede about Seattle to the quotes about Timbers and Sounders’ fans arguing about who has better beer as it somehow relates to MLS Soccer, it’s jut an article full of laughs. There won’t be much bro noodling at the match between Portland and Seattle, that’s for sure.…

While attending the Philadelphia Union v. L.A. Galaxy game last night in Chester, I used half time to head out to my favorite concession stand at PPL Park, Los Tacos (a bit of a hidden gem). As I was walking through a crowd between the gate from the inside concourse area to the outdoor plaza,…

For 80+ minutes fans at PPL Park were frustrated at the lack of offensive pressure from the Union, but one misguided pass from the Galaxy set the stage for Danny Mwanga to bang one home and set the River End ablaze. So much happier to sit in Chester traffic with a tie as opposed to…
