    Jul 18, 2011, 8:07 AM EDT

The Union ended their long road swing with a 3-0 throttling of a struggling New England Revolution club at Gillette Stadium. The U came out firing and controlled the run of play throughout the first half, beginning with some attacking waves that would earn them a lead they’d hold throughout.

  2. Union Look to Quash Revolution

  4. To Watch: U.S. Women Vs. France

    Jul 13, 2011, 11:30 AM EDT

Yes, it’s women’s soccer, but any sports fan can appreciate the absolutely remarkable victory this group of American ladies pulled off on Sunday after being crushed by both the referees and the Brazilians on Sunday. And plus, if there ever was a day were you could fit in something different into your sports viewing schedule, it’s the day after the MLB All-Star game.

  7. Finally: Union Storm Back With Three Second Half Goals

    Jun 26, 2011, 12:10 PM EDT

Down 1-0 to visiting Chivas USA and approaching 300 minutes without a goal, the Union finally gave the PPL Park faithful something to Doop about. The team dominated the inferior Sporting KC side on Wednesday but failed to score in a 0-0 draw. On Saturday night we got pretty much the exact opposite.

A near last-place Western team, Chivas came to play on Saturday, giving the Union some real competition and even a bit of a fright, once leading and once leveling the match. But the U found their scoring touch, with Veljko Paunovic notching his first MLS goal to level it at 1, and Carlos Ruiz punching home a beautiful go-ahead finish. Chivas would tie it at 2 on a goal by the giant, Justin Braun, whom Rev warned us about in his preview. But the Union finally went ahead for good on a gorgeous Danny Mwanga strike in the 82nd minute.

  12. Midweek Matchup: Union Look to Remain Unbeaten at PPL

    Jun 22, 2011, 5:24 PM EDT

I’d imagine when you’re accustomed to regularly playing weekend games a mid-week match can disrupt your typical routine. Similarly, flying cross country, playing a game three time zones away, flying back across the country, and playing another match less than four days later has to really mess with you.

Those are the circumstances the Union face tonight as they host Sporting Kansas City at PPL Park (7:30PM/The Comcast Network). The U, who lost 1-0 to Vancouver on Saturday night, now must regroup as they look to extend their seven game home unbeaten streak.

  13. Gorgeous Goal Sinks Union in Vancouver

    Jun 19, 2011, 8:55 AM EDT

Not a great night for the Philadelphia Union in Vancouver, but the lone goal by Whitecaps FC was well worth a watch.

    Jun 10, 2011, 11:05 AM EDT

The Union look to remain unbeaten at home as they face CONCACAF Champions League runner-up Real Salt Lake (4PM/ABC). Peter Nowak’s side returns to PPL Park after picking up four of a possible six points from back-to-back road games.

RSL sits in fourth place in the West with 20 points. Although their technically mid-table in their conference they’ve only played 11 games. By contrast, the Galaxy, who lead the West with 30 points have played five more games than RSL. Similarly, the Union, who are in first place in the East, have only played 12 games.

  18. Mwanga, Union Earn a Road Point in COL

    Jun 5, 2011, 12:18 PM EDT

We were eager to see how the Union would follow-up their best-ever scoring effort on the road in the Colorado altitude, and overall, they didn’t disappoint, earning a 1-all tie against the Rapids. It would have been more encouraging to see a W and possibly another multi-goal game, but the biggest take-home from this one was the Union’s composure in going hard for a goal after conceding the opening tally on a second-half PK.

  19. High Up: Union in Colorado to Take On Defending Champ Rapids

    Jun 4, 2011, 3:25 PM EDT

The Union, fresh off of their six goal explosion last week against Toronto, are in Colorado tonight to face the defending MLS Cup Champion Rapids (9PM/The Comcast Network). Both teams will be without offensive contributors. The Rapids will be without Omar Cummings, who has not played since April due to an ankle injury, was just…

  20. US Faces World Cup Champs in Gold Cup Tuneup

    Jun 4, 2011, 10:05 AM EDT

US v. Spain: This time it’s for all the tapas (4:30PM/ESPN). On a serious note, I’d crush some patatas bravas right now. A lot has happened since these two teams last met at the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa. The US stunned Spain 2-0 that day. Spain, the 2008 European Champions, was in the…

  21. Justin Mapp Is Your MLS Player of the Week

    May 30, 2011, 9:05 PM EDT

Today, they doubled it, topping home side Toronto FC, 6-2. The Union are now fully atop the table in the Eastern Conference, having…

  23. Live from Wembley: Champions League Final – Barca v. ManU

    May 28, 2011, 11:30 AM EDT

Barca. ManU. Both teams won their domestic league. Both teams feature a veritable who’s who of footballing talent. Barcelona’s La Masia trained three man symphony of Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta lead the way for the La Liga champions. ManU is led by the ageless Ryan Giggs, the now traditional 10-shirt wearing Wayne Rooney, and El…

  24. Union Travel North of the Border to T.Dot

    May 28, 2011, 11:05 AM EDT

The appetizer to your Memorial Day Soccer Saturday kicks off at 12:30 on Comcast SportsNet. It was such an amazing sentence to read that I couldn’t resist lifting it directly from the MLS.com game preview…”Toronto FC remain home to take on the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field”. Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia…

  25. Ruiz’s Goal Was Great, But Was Convey’s Even Better?

    May 24, 2011, 1:26 PM EDT

Carlos Ruiz of the Union netted an amazing long goal off a failed free kick attempt, putting a left-footed boot off the crossbar from long distance [video]. The goal immediately got a few “goal of the year” comments and linked just about everywhere. But, as great as it was, I’m not even sure it was the best goal of the MLS weekend.
