Audio: Chip Kelly Says Winning the Super Bowl Would Be Like ‘A Thousand Wing Bowls'

Share

Chip Kelly got to cross off talking to Angelo Cataldi from his bucket list this morning. No, really, the Eagles new head coach said that. Kelly was a guest on 94 WIP's Morning Show on this fine Friday to talk about his first 24 hours as the Eagles head coach. He continued his trend of mentioning Wing Bowl as well. At this rate, we'll hear about Wing Bowl from Kelly every single time there is a microphone in front of his face.

He did thankfully talk some football as well.

Two interesting takeaways...

On when to go for it on fourth down or go for 2-point conversion

"There's not one thing all the time. There's a lot of statistical analysis and study in that. There's a lot of feel for how the game is. There's a lot 'I don't think my kicker can kick it from here, so we're going to go for it instead.' Some people are like 'He's been studying Pythagorean Theorem on exactly how this works.' I'm not a math major, I can tell you that. They told me there'd be no math, so that's why I got involved."

On what's important in a quarterback

"You have to be a great decision maker. Our job as a coaching staff is to then put you in a position where you can do that. Some of the decisions may be all throw-decisions, if that's where your strengths are. I'm not tied to one type of quarterback. If you have an opportunity to coach somebody Tommy Brady, you tailor your offense to him. If you've got a Peyton Manning, you tailor your offense to Peyton Manning. If you've got a more athletic guy that has a chance to beat you with his feet, then you tailor your offense to him. The biggest thing in any quarterback has always been having a decision maker and having a quick mind and being able to diagnose things at a very rapid rate and making sure the ball is getting in the hands of your playmakers."

So, basically, that rules out Mike Vick.
